  • Chief's Interview.
  • Medical exam and drug screen.

Spokane County Fire District 8 provides a full range of services that include fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, education and investigation, and associated support and maintenance services to our 23,917 citizens in a 110 square mile area in south Spokane County. SCFD8 members responded to 4,248 incidents in 2022 from the District's four fire stations located in the Moran, Valleyford, Ponderosa, and Saltese areas. Each station is staffed twenty-four hours a day with a combination of career, part-time, volunteer and resident volunteer personnel.

Hiring Status

 3 positions total for Lateral Firefighter EMT & Paramedic Candidates.

Salary Information

All wages and benefits are negotiated by Spokane County Fire District 8 Firefighters IAFF Local 3711. The current contract expires December 31, 2024.

Firefighter/EMT-B $78,768-$86,558. Firefighter/Paramedic $87,424-$95,214. Salary to begin at Step B, C, or D of the Salary Schedule per the current IAFF Local 3711 contract. 10% Paramedic premium pay is included. Beginning step level will be determined based on experience and confirmed by the Fire Chief.

Prior Experience Requirement

Minimum of one (1) year experience as a full time, fully compensated Firefighter/Paramedic.

Veterans Preference Points Documentation must be included with application packet to be considered.
EMT Certification

Candidate must have National Registry EMT-B or Washington State EMT-B certification to apply, and must be able to obtain a Washington State EMT-B certification within six months of hire.

Firefighter 1 Certification IFSAC Firefighter 1, or equivalent, as determined at the sole discretion of the District.
Paramedic Certification Candidate must have National Registry Paramedic or Washington State Paramedic certification to apply, and must be able to obtain a Washington State Paramedic certification within six months of hire.
Prior FF Experience Required Minimum of one (1) year experience as a full time, fully compensated Firefighter/Paramedic.
Body Decorations Employees are prohibited from showing tattoos or any form of body art (such as branding or scarring) on the head, neck or face. Employees are prohibited from showing tattoos or any form of body art that are prejudicial to good order, discipline, morale, public trust or confidence or bring discredit to the District as determined by the Fire Chief or designee.
Other IFSAC Hazardous Materials Operations, or equivalent, as determined at the sole discretion of the District.
