Important Information

Application process through Public Safety Testing shall include:

  • Completed PST Application.
  • Current CPAT.
  • Completed Personal History Statement
  • Veterans Preference Points Form (if applicable).
  • Applications must be completed and posted to the candidates PST profile no later than 16:00 on November 22, 2021.

The hiring process shall consist of the following steps:

  • Application packet review.
  • Panel interview and Paramedic skills evaluation as applicable.
  • Medical exam and drug screen.
  • Background check and suitability assessment

Spokane County Fire District 8 provides a full range of services that include fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, education and investigation, and associated support and maintenance services to our 22,397 citizens in a 110 square mile area in south Spokane County. SCFD8 members responded to 3,614 incidents in 2020 from the District's four fire stations located in the Moran, Valleyford, Ponderosa, and Saltese areas. Each station is staffed twenty-four hours a day with a combination of career, part-time, volunteer and resident volunteer personnel.

Salary Information

All wages and benefits are negotiated by Spokane County Fire District 8 Firefighters IAFF Local 3711. The current contract expires December 31, 2021.

Step A Firefighter/Paramedic salary is $70,815 with a recruit earning 80% of this wage, and progressing up to full Step A salary by successful completion of the initial six months of training.

Candidates will need to upload their CPAT certification to their Personal History Statement. CPAT must be valid within one year prior to application closing date. Certified Non-PST CPAT will be accepted.

Firefighter 1 Certification Preferred but not required.
Paramedic Certification Candidate must have National Registry Paramedic or Washington State Paramedic certification to apply, and must be able to obtain a Washington State Paramedic certification within six months of hire.
Prior FF Experience Required Preferred.
Body Decorations Tatoos visible while wearing long sleeve shirt and duty pants are not allowed per District Policy.
