TESTING ANNOUNCEMENT

FOR FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

Clark County Fire District 6 is establishing 18-month eligibility lists with the intent to hire at least four (4) personnel to begin employment March 1, 2027. For more information on Fire District 6, visit our web page and view our Recruit Academy Graduation videos.

Entry-level recruits will attend an in-house fire academy and are entered into the Washington State Firefighters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program. All career firefighters are members of the firefighter’s union, IAFF Local 452.

Application and Written Test

In order for your score to be available to Fire District 6, you must have completed the written exam with PST and apply to Clark County Fire District 6 via the PST website. The Personal History Statement is your application. Candidates have several opportunities to take the written exam. See the PST calendar for details.

Physical Abilities Test
Applicants must submit valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) credentials dated between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.

CPAT Orientation and Practice Tests are recommended and available prior to the deadline. Attach a copy of your CPAT certificate of completion to your PHS OR via email fd6candidates@ccfd6.org OR via FAX 360.576.1198.

EMT-B or EMT-P Certification

Proof of valid, current National Registry or Washington State EMT-B (for FF/EMT applicants) or EMT-P (for FF/PM applicants) is required. Attach a copy to your PHS OR via email fd6candidates@ccfd6.org OR via FAX 360.576.1198.

A completed Personal History Statement (PHS) must be uploaded to your account prior to September 30, 2026. To complete and upload your PHS, login to your account and navigate to "My PHS Form".

Community Information

Clark County is located in the beautiful southwestern part of the State of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Clark County offers excellent livability and a relatively low cost of living. The area is experiencing a positive cycle of new construction growth and development. The State of Washington has no state income tax.

Department Information

Formed in 1954, Clark County Fire District 6 protects and serves a population of over 70,000 residents in a 37 square mile area. The District is adjacent to the city of Vancouver, WA, is primarily urban and suburban and runs over 9,400 calls per year out of 4 fire stations. The District is governed by three elected Commissioners and provides fire suppression, rescue and non-transport ALS paramedic service. The District staffing is 82 FTE emergency response personnel and approximately 10 administrative personnel. The District is hiring four new members to replace current and expected vacancies.

Salary Information

2026 Salary range: $8,672 - $11,844 per month for Firefighter/Paramedic

Benefit Information

1. Four Platoon Schedule: 24hr on/48hr off, followed by 24hr on/96hr off (11 debit days)

2. Health Insurance: 100% for employee, 90% for dependents

3. Dental: 100% for employee and dependents

4. Vacation accrual: 12hr – 25.5hr per month (based on years of service)

5. Holiday: 126 hours off per year

6. Sick Leave: 16 hours per month. Up to 75% credit to MERP or VEBA upon retirement

7. 120 hours sick leave loan-against-accrual when hired

8. Retirement: LEOFF II Retirement System

9. Deferred Compensation: $250 per month employee contribution and 5.5% of top step firefighter wage per month employer contribution.

10.HRA VEBA: $100 per month

11.MERP: $100 per month

12.Tuition reimbursement

13. Educational Incentives: AA Degree – 2.0% of Step IV Firefighter Wage, BA/BS Degree – 3.0% of Step IV Firefighter Wage

14.Longevity Pay: based on years of service 4% @ 10yrs - 8.5% @ 25yrs

*January 1, 2027 COLA increase of 3-4% based on survey data.

Paramedic Certification Washington State EMT-P certification or National Registry EMT-P certification. Must obtain Clark County certification within 6 months of hire.

Applicants who graduated from paramedic training after June 30, 1996 are required to have graduated from a paramedic training program that is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

For paramedics that are not Washington certified and have not completed an NREMT-P cognitive exam in the last 12 months, the candidate would be required to take and pass that exam for Washington certification.
