Clark County Fire District 6 is establishing 18-month eligibility lists with the intent to hire at least ten personnel to begin employment February 1, 2020. For more information on Fire District 6, visit our web page.

Entry-level recruits will attend an in-house fire academy and are entered into the Washington State Firefighters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program. All career firefighters are members of the firefighter’s union, IAFF Local 1805.

Lateral consideration may be made for firefighters who are already entered into, or have completed, an approved firefighter apprenticeship program. This includes the Washington State Firefighters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program, the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee and possibly others. Application & Written Test
Clark County Fire District 6 utilizes the services of Public Safety Testing for application, written exam, and background investigation for candidates. Interested candidates must visit Public Safety Testing ( to create an account and apply on-line for Clark County Fire District 6. Call 866-HIRE-911 with any questions.

In order for your score to be available to Fire District 6, you must have completed the written exam with PST by November 13, 2020 at 5:00 PM and apply to Clark County Fire District 6 via the PST website. Candidates have several opportunities to take the written exam. See the PST calendar for details.

Physical Abilities Test
Applicants must possess valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) credentials dated anytime from November 13, 2019 to November 13, 2020. Any legitimate CPAT will suffice.

CPAT tests are conducted by (among others) Public Safety Testing. To view a list of upcoming CPAT events and to sign up, please visit Public Safety Testing's website.

EMT-B or EMT-P Certification
Proof of valid, current National Registry or Washington State EMT-B (for FF/EMT applicants) or EMT-P (for FF/PM applicants) is required. Deliver in person OR via OR via FAX 360.576.1198.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pass written exam
  • CPAT
  • 21 years of age by the date of hire
  • Eligible to work in the US
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Possess a valid, state-issued driver’s license
  • Washington State EMT-B certification or National Registry EMT certification. If National Registry, must obtain Washington certification within six months of hire.


  • Washington State EMT-P certification or National Registry EMT-P certification. Must obtain Clark County certification within 6 months of hire.

Applicants who graduated from paramedic training after June 30, 1996 are required to have graduated from a paramedic training program that is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

For paramedics that are not Washington certified and have not completed an NREMT-P cognitive exam in the last 12 months, the candidate would be required to take and pass that exam for Washington certification.


Felony conviction as an adult

Some misdemeanors and juvenile convictions may be disqualifiers. Include descriptions in your PHS.

Community Information

Clark County is located in the beautiful southwestern part of the State of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Clark County offers excellent livability and a relatively low cost of living. The area is experiencing a positive cycle of new construction growth and development. The State of Washington has no state income tax.

Department Information

Formed in 1954, Clark County Fire District 6 protects and serves a population of over 70,000 residents in a 37 square mile area. The District is adjacent to the city of Vancouver, WA, is primarily urban and suburban and runs over 8,800 calls per year out of 3 fire stations. The District is governed by three elected Commissioners and provides fire suppression, rescue and non-transport ALS paramedic service. The department is staffed with 55 FTE emergency response personnel and approximately 10 administrative personnel. Due to area growth and increased call volume, the department is expanding emergency services. A second 2-person squad was added Sept 1, 2020, a new 3-person engine company will replace the squad beginning Jan 2021 and a new 4-person truck company will replace the engine in 2023. This transition will increase staffing by over 26%.
