Important Information

The Gambling Commission is recruiting for one (1) full-time Intelligence Officer within our Criminal Enforcement Unit.

As an Intelligence Officer you will contribute to the mission of the Gambling Commission through multiple aspects. Specifically you will have the opportunity to perform threat assessments, risk analysis, and aid in data researching. You will apply various analytical techniques to determine potential risks to the public, local, state and federal personnel, holdings and infrastructures.

This position is unique because you can qualify for the position two different ways, law enforcement or non-law enforcement.

Physical Ability Testing (PAT) – Non-LEO and Lateral LEO Intelligence Officer applicants are not required to take the PAT.

This position will be located at one of our field office's in Federal Way or Spokane, Washington.

Starting salary range: 5,133 - 7,078 monthly (depending upon your education and experience)

Note: 5% Premium Pay will be added to salary if duty station is in Federal Way

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation, GED, or equivalent education
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire

We may give preference to candidates with the following qualifications

  • Current Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • IALEIA Basic Analyst Classification or Criminal Intelligence Certified Analyst (CICA)
  • CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist)
  • Successful completion of the WA State Basic Law Enforcement Academy, or equivalent law enforcement academy
  • Experience as a law enforcement officer analyst
  • Experience in complex criminal, financial, and/or digital/cyber/internet investigations
  • Experience conducting complex investigations to include writing reports, conducting interviews, interpreting, and applying complex policies, rules and laws
  • Documented fluency in Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish languages

Criminal Enforcement Unit - Special Agents of the Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU) are responsible for conducting criminal investigations under RCW Chapter 9.46 throughout Washington in coordination with federal, state, and local law enforcement and tribal agencies. 

As an Intelligence Officer, you will assist in ongoing investigations relating to organized crime by providing research, social network analysis, and telephone analysis too open complex cases. Additionally, you are responsible for monitoring crime trends in specific areas to analyze and try to predict future organized crime events. You will also have the opportunity to create profiles or dossiers on criminals, locations or wanted fugitives.

In addition to monitoring and analyzing organized crime trends, you will also monitor financial information again in an attempt to identify trends and prevent future financial crimes from taking place. In your work you will provide guidance to individuals and corporate organizations helping them make good investment decisions by analyzing financial records, following money trails and identifying the initial sources and ultimate destinations of funds.

The Commission will rely heavily on your work compiling case data. You will have the opportunity to develop computerized databases to help track links, telephone records, financial information, and business records. This will allow for easy analysis when investigating crimes. You will also get to write intelligence bulletins regarding criminal activity or enterprises that may affect officer safety.

In the Intelligence Officer role, we will want you to establish and maintain liaison activity with other law enforcement agencies, as well as organizations in the private sector to ensure good working relationships with the Commission and effective exchange of intelligence information.

Hiring Status

Washington State Gambling Commission - Intelligence Officer (Non-LEO & Lateral LEO) has 1 vacancy.

As a Washington State law enforcement officer, Special Agents are required to complete a basic law enforcement academy. If you do not currently hold a law enforcement certification, you will have the opportunity to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center.

Special Agent starting salary ranges from $61,596 - $84,936 annually, depending upon your education and experience.

The WSGC has four phases to our hiring process:

Phase 1 - Physical fitness test and written test (conducted by Public Safety Testing)

Phase 2 - Panel interview

Phase 3 - Background Investigation

Phase 4 - Polygraph exam, Psychological Exam, Medical Exam, Drug test.

Phase 1 Hiring process for applicants applying for the Non-LEO position:

  • Apply online with Public Safety Testing (www.publicsafetytesting.com) and schedule initial testing.
  • Complete the Law Enforcement Exam on your scheduled test date.

Phase 1 Hiring process for applicants with current Basic Law Enforcement certification OR equivalent:

  • Apply online with Public Safety Testing (www.publicsafetytesting.com) (be sure to choose the Lateral option) and schedule initial testing.
  • Complete the Law Enforcement Exam on your scheduled test date.

All Phase 1 applicants will need to complete your Personal History Statement (PHS) immediately after completing your initial tests. Once you have completed your initial tests and PHS through Public Safety Testing (PST) (www.publicsafetytesting.com), your name, score, and applicant profile will be forwarded to us.

Once you complete the Personal History Statement, the next step in the process is completing an online application through careers.wa.gov. You can create an application profile on www.careers.wa.gov by clicking the "Apply Now" button at the top of the page.

If your PHS is not complete and available to us at the time we review candidates for a panel interview, you will not be considered for that hiring cycle. There will be some time that lapses between completing your tests and the panel interview – you should spend that time preparing for the interview and hiring process.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Extensive knowledge of criminal procedure, investigative techniques, writing and executing search warrants, subpoenas, and operational plans.
  • Experience preparing investigations for criminal and administrative charges.
  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, the goals and objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the WSGC.

In addition, we may give preference to candidates who:

  • Graduate of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) or equivalent OR
  • Ability to attend and complete Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent


Salary Information
