GENERAL STATEMENT

The City of Langley has begun accepting applications for the position of a Entry or Lateral Police Officer with the Langley Police Department. A police officer for the City of Langley performs a full scope of law enforcement duties in protecting life and property, conducting investigations, community events, fire and medical as well as the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Due to the strong sense of community, an officer will act at all times to the best interest of the police department's role in being a service organization to the community on or off duty. Pay and Benefits

The City of Langley offers competitive pay and benefits using either Kaiser or Regence Blue Shield medical coverage offering Medical and Dental plans for employees and family members. Entry pay ranges from $60,112 to $78,208. Lateral pay ranges from $65,864.41 (start), $74,610.89 (mid), to $83,357.38 (max) annually. Pay will be determined by experience level approved by the Chief of Police and Mayor. Additional specialty and educational pay available depending on qualifications. Excellent vacation, holiday and sick leave accrual.

Collective Bargaining Unit

Each police officer has the opportunity to become a member of the Langley Police Guild bargaining unit.

Illustrative Examples of Work

Uses a patrol vehicle, bike patrol, and foot patrol to patrol city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve peace, control vehicular traffic, prevent unlawful conduct, detect and investigate violations of law. Arrests and investigations of people involved in criminal activity. Enforces all laws fairly and impartially as determined by reasonable judgment.

Prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records including investigative reports, warnings and correction notices, issues citations, evidence tags, criminal history forms, impound forms and various others. Prepares cases and provides testimony in court proceedings. Performs miscellaneous other duties as assigned including care and maintenance of department equipment, records, supplies and facilities.

Qualifications Required

Must be able to complete(d) and pass(ed) the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) or equivalent prior to application. Must receive a WSCJTC Peace Officer Certification with no active WSCJTC decertification investigations. Must be able to deal with extremely stressful events in a professional manner.Must be in excellent physical and mental condition without defects that would prohibit participating in all aspects of police work. No felony convictions, domestic violence related misdemeanors, or firearm related crimes. All misdemeanor convictions will be closely scrutinized. Must meet all current requirements of the Langley Civil Service Commission. Any information intentionally left out of any background investigation will result in automatic disqualification. Applicants must have proof of high school graduation and any other related training.

The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and practical decision-making when interacting with the public & peers, both in routine circumstances and during high-pressure emergency situations. The position includes responsibility for a take-home patrol vehicle, firearms, and other technologies provided by the Langley Police Department, ensuring proper care, upkeep, and timely scheduling of maintenance.

Salary Information

Entry Hire Pay from $60,112 to $78,208.

Lateral Hire Pay from $65,864.41 (start), $74,610.89 (mid), to $83,357.38 (max) annually.
