Important Information

Lateral Candidates:

Lateral Candidates are not required to test through PST. Lateral applicants can complete the PHS and one-page City of Wenatchee application on the PST site or contact Sergeant Nathan Hahn at nhahn@wenatcheewa.gov to obtain the documents.

If certified in Washington State, an applicant must have by date of hire a minimum of three-years continuous full time commissioned law enforcement employment within the last eight years. Or, the candidate must have at least one continuous year of commissioned full-time employment within the last 24 months and be fluent in the Spanish language. 

If certified in a state other than Washington, an applicant must have a minimum of three continuous years of full time commissioned law enforcement employment within the last five years or have at least one continuous year of commissioned full-time employment within the last 24 months and have fluency in the Spanish language.

Department Information

45 commissioned officers and 12 professional personnel make up this progressive agency where employees are encouraged to develop community partnerships and use problem solving skills in their everyday work. The agency is housed in a modern police facility built in 2004 complete with a workout room. Career opportunities include assignment in Patrol, Detectives, Proact Team, Drug Task Force, Traffic Officer, and the East Cascade SWAT Team.

Hiring Status

Wenatchee Police Department - Lateral Police Officer has 9 vacancies.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to, review minimum qualifications (Note: Years of service and/or Spanish fluency for Lateral Candidates), disqualifying factors, and be detailed on the PHS. All PST applications will be reviewed for completeness, to include a passing score on both the written and PAT tests (entry level only), and a completed, up-to-date PHS. Based on the information contained in the PHS, all applicants will be screened for minimum qualifications, automatic disqualifiers, and potential disqualifiers.

Our Entry Level and Lateral candidate eligibility lists are continually updated as additional oral panels are conducted. A candidate's ranking on the eligibility list may change based on the administration of additional oral panels. Each candidate's name will remain on the eligibility list for a period of 6 months from the date of their oral panel. After certification of the eligibility list, the Civil Service "rule of three" will be applied, and those candidates may be invited to a Chief's Interview. If selected to advance beyond a Chief's Interview, the candidate will receive a conditional offer of employment. A final offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical/physical examination, and a passing score on the BLEA Certified Physical Ability Test.

Salary Information

For 2023:

$8605 per month for Officer First Class

$60.00 per month Shift Differential

$75.00 per month Cleaning/Footwear allowance

Possibility of up to 88 hours of holiday cash out

Depending on experience, laterals will be placed at an appropriate pay step

Education incentive 4% (4 year degree), 2% (2 year degree)

Bilingual (Spanish) 3%
