Department Information

Walla Walla County Fire District #4 is a progressive combination Fire District that provides fire and EMS services to approximately 9500 citizens in the 125 square miles of unincorporated area outside the cities of Walla Walla and College Place. We provide structural and wildland fire suppression, rescue, aircraft rescue and firefighting, emergency medical services, fire prevention and public education with 14 career and 65 volunteer members. We currently provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) transport services.


Since 2008, Walla Walla County Fire District #4 has contracted with Port of Walla Walla to provide Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services for the Walla Walla Regional Airport. This collaborative effort with the Port is an efficient and cost effective method to provide ARFF services while also enhancing the level of service provided to the citizens of Fire District #4.


In addition to serving the residents of Fire District #4, we routinely work with neighboring fire departments at emergency incidents utilizing automatic aid and mutual aid agreements. We also participate in state and interstate mobilizations when requested.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with the assessment center and interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Following the testing process, the candidates will be placed on a ranked list. Vacancies are filled by offering the top candidates an interview with the Fire Chief followed by conditional offers of employment provided to the success candidates. Candidates must successfully complete a medical physical, psychological testing and extensive background investigation to receive a full offer of employment.
