Community Information
Tulalip is a sovereign tribal community located in Snohomish County, Washington, just north of Everett and approximately 40 miles from Seattle. It is home to the Tulalip Tribes, a federally recognized tribe composed of the descendants of the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and other Coast Salish peoples who were signatories to the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott.
The Tulalip Indian Reservation, established in 1855, spans approximately 22,000 acres and includes residential areas, natural forests, wetlands, and coastline along Possession Sound and Port Susan. The reservation is both culturally rich and economically dynamic, offering a blend of tradition and modern development. The Tulalip Tribes operate a variety of enterprises that support tribal sovereignty and community services, including the Tulalip Resort Casino, Quil Ceda Village retail center, and tribal government operations.

The Tulalip Police Department has 88 full-time employees, of which 59 are commissioned police officers. Tulalip police officers provide service to over 10,000 residents who live on the Reservation and serve a daily population of over 50,000.
Tulalip police officers are general authority police officers, which means they have the authority to enforce criminal law on tribal and non-tribal citizens. The officers are state-certified and follow all requirements of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center. The officers enforce State Law, Federal Law, and Tribal Code. The Tulalip police officers work closely with the FBI, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, and Washington State Patrol to keep the Tulalip community safe.
The Tulalip Tribes is a Federally recognized Tribe and the Tulalip Reservation was established in 1855 with the signing of the Point Elliot Treaty. As part of the treaty, the Tribes ceded millions of acres of land in exchange for sovereign tribal rights and self-governance. The treaty specified the Tribes would retain their fishing, hunting, and gathering rights. The Tulalip Police Department has a Fish & Wildlife Division; the Fish & Wildlife officers enforce treaty rights on the Puget Sound from Seattle to Canada.
The Tulalip Police Department focuses on crime prevention, traffic safety, school safety, narcotics enforcement, and quality of life concerns. The police department works collaboratively with other Tribal departments and is strongly supported by the Board of Directors and the Tulalip Community. Job Description
Job Summary
Patrol all Usual & Accustomed Fishing areas of The Tulalip Tribes and enforce any and all pertinent codes and any Tribal, State and Federal Laws. Patrol all Game Management areas of The Tulalip Tribes and enforce any and all pertinent codes and any Tribal, State and Federal laws.
Patrols the exterior boundaries of the Tulalip Reservation, prevent crime, and enforce Tribal, State, and Federal Laws. Make arrests, investigate reports, and serve search warrants, criminal summons, traffic citations, and required legal reports. Take statements and conduct interviews with witnesses, suspects, and defendants. Participate in community service-crime prevention and youth programs. Provides support and backup to County, City, State, and Tribal Officers as well as Tribal Gaming Agents and other Tribal Programs.
Recruit Police Officers will be on probationary status from time of hire to 12 months after completion of the Field Training Program.
Essential Job Duties
Prioritize protection and safety of Tribal Fishermen.
Operate 30–40+ ft. diesel and twin diesel vessels, 24+ ft. gas outboard vessels, and smaller outboard vessels.
Complete daily maintenance of all fisheries (Tulalip Tribes) vessels.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on diesel and gas engines.
Conduct repairs on vessels as needed.
Ensure all electrical equipment (radar, depth sounders, radios, etc.) is in operational condition.
Ensure fisheries vessels are adequately equipped according to Tulalip Tribes Safety List and U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Complete assigned duties related to vessel operations and maintenance.
Operate patrol video cameras and police service video cameras monitoring tribal buildings/marinas; maintain chain of custody for video evidence.
Provide first aid/EMS response, CPR, and natural disaster response during emergency conditions.
Arrest criminal violators, write criminal investigative reports, search warrants, arrest warrants, prepare probable cause statements, patrol logs, and incident reports using the Department’s RMS.
Provide mutual aid to County, State, Federal, and Tribal enforcement agencies within the guidelines of Tribal codes.
Testify in Tribal, Federal, and State courts when required.
Enforce all regulations and codes of the Tulalip Tribes; assist other Tribal Departments/Staff when directed by Supervisors.
Maintain assigned patrol vehicles (daily maintenance, cleanliness, professional appearance, and compliance with traffic codes).
Successfully complete all required in-service training and qualifications; qualify quarterly with all defensive equipment (firearms, chemical agent, baton, handcuffs, restraints).
Collect criminal evidence, maintaining chain of custody in accordance with rules of evidence and Washington State Crime Lab standards.
Follow all guidelines contained in the Tulalip Tribal Police Services Policy and Procedures manual.
Perform other related job duties as assigned.

Applicant must be at least 20.5 years of age at the time of application.
WA State Driver’s License and adherence to the Tribal Insurance Policy (abstract required).
Current First Aid and CPR certifications (six months allowed to obtain if not current).
Successfully pass all physical agility pre-employment processes.
Successfully pass Tulalip Police Department pre-employment background investigation, including polygraph.
Successfully pass psychological evaluation by a Tulalip Police Department–appointed psychologist.
Successfully pass pre-employment medical evaluation by a licensed provider selected by TPD.
Successfully pass Tulalip Tribes pre-employment drug screen.
Successfully pass all pre-academy training and academy requirements, including physical fitness. Continued employment contingent on completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy and Field Training Program.
Must not have been arrested for, or convicted of, any crime of violence (disposition must be not guilty). No felony or domestic violence convictions.
Must live within 15 miles of the Tulalip Reservation (three months allowed after hire to comply).
