Important Information

SE Thurston Fire Authority and East Olympia Fire District #6 have begun the testing process for establishing a career Lateral Firefighter/EMT hiring list. This will be a joint testing process: candidates will be eligible for hire at either department depending on qualifications, department need, and at the discretion of Administration.

NOTE:  East Olympia Fire District 6 will be the "hub" for both agencies for all testing and application processing.

VACANCIES:   The agencies plan to fill 2-3 positions ( between Lateral and Entry-Level) between the two agencies, depending on budget.

PROCESS:

Please read the following instructions carefully for applying for this position. Failure to follow these instructions will result in your application being denied.

To submit an application:

1. Visit www.eofd.org to obtain a PDF version of the application, or complete the electronic version of the application on-line. You may also download the Background Waiver.

2. You must complete the SE Thurston Fire/East Olympia Fire District 6 application in its entirety. You must sign the application.

3. You must complete all the information on the Background Waiver. It must also be notarized prior to submitting your application.

4. You must submit the following documents with your application:

  • You must have passed the CPAT within one year of date of this announcement and submit a copy of your certificate, or you can expect to participate in a District-sponsored Physical Agility Test date to be determined.
  • A copy of your High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • If requesting Veterans’ Preference, a copy of DD214.
  • A current 5-year driving abstract.
  • A copy of your Firefighter I Certification. If you are an out-of-state applicant, you must submit a copy of your state’s Firefighter I Certification.
  • A copy of your HazMat Ops Certification. If you are an out-of-state applicant, you must submit a copy of your state’s HazMat Ops certification.
  • A copy of your EVIP 3.0 Certification.
  • A copy of your Emergency Medical Technician Certification or NREMT Certification. If you are an out-of-state applicant, you must submit a copy of your state’s E.M.T. certification or National Registry.
  • Proof of completion of an academy.
  • Other Certifications listed under Desired Qualifications of the job descriptions.

East Olympia Fire District 6

Located in the heart of Thurston County, East Olympia Fire District 6 (EOFD) is bordered by several neighboring fire districts and municipalities. This includes Lacey Fire District 3, South Thurston Fire, West Thurston Regional Fire Authority, South East Thurston Fire Authority, Tumwater Fire Department, and Olympia Fire Department. EOFD provides emergency services to various in-district and neighboring residential communities, regional lakes, and rural properties involving wildland/urban interface. In addition, EOFD serves two elementary schools and a number of local community tourist and commercial properties.

Among the fastest growing counties in the Pacific Northwest, Thurston County is home to more than 220,000 residents and is the eighth most populated county in Washington State. Nearly 140,000 residents live in the more urban north county areas in and around the cities of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater. The rest live in and around the smaller towns of Bucoda, Tenino, Rainier, and Yelm and in the more rural areas of Thurston County.

Thurston County is located at the southern end of Puget Sound in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountains are nearby to the east, while Washington's Pacific Ocean coast is just an hour's drive to the west. Department Information

S.E. Thurston Fire Authority  serves an area of 84 square miles including the Cities of Yelm & Rainier and the surrounding unincorporated area located in Thurston County. The City of Yelm and Rainier are classified as suburban with the remaining service area designated as rural. Call volume in excess of 4,000 emergency responses annually. S.E. Thurston currently staffs two stations and is the primary BLS transport agency for our jurisdiction. SETFA has 33 career members and 10 volunteer staff.

Thurston County Fire District 6 also known as East Olympia Fire District 6 is a combination department serving approximately 13,000 residents over 30 square miles. East Olympia operates out of two active stations with 16 career staff and 7 volunteer staff, staffing a 3-personnel Engine and a 2 personnel Aid Unit. The service area includes a vast portion of rural communities with parts of suburban areas including the Chehalis Western Bike Trail, Deschutes River, and mainline Burlington Northern Railroad running through the center of District 6. We provide automatic aid to the nearby cities of Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia, and other neighboring fire districts and are part of the working fire assignment to a good portion of the county.
