Pacific County Fire District #1 is located on the North Beach Peninsula more commonly referred to as the Long Beach Peninsula. District 1 boundaries and service contract areas  include the entire peninsula with the exception of the Cities of Ilwaco and Long Beach. The peninsula is a popular vacation destination for family fun. Year round activities can be found for the entire family. Department Information

Pacific County Fire District #1 is a small progressive combination fire department located in the southwest corner of Washington State at the mouth of the Columbia River. Comprised of 18 line staff, 30+ dedicated volunteers and 6 administrative staff, PCFD1 provides Fire Suppression, Rescue, EMS including ALS and BLS 911 and Inter-facility transports, Fire Prevention, Investigation, and Public Education. In 2020, District 1 responded to 2278 calls (85% medical calls) from two staffed stations augmented by 3 outlying stations. District 1 cross staffs apparatus with 5 on duty personnel per day augmented by 3 Chief officers and dedicated volunteers. The EMS levy and a Fire Lid Lift  passed in 2019 by the approximately 7,000 community members shows strong support for the customer service oriented services provided by personnel at all levels. The 2023 budget approved by the Board of Commissioners totaled 3.9 million dollars and included revenue from property taxes and ambulance revenue.

PCFD1 teaches and practices tested, modern tactics in fire suppression and research based EMS. In-house training, provided by our staff and active Medical Program Director, includes AHA and NAEMT courses including ACLS, PALS, BLS, PHTLS, and AMLS from experienced faculty. Washington State Regional Rural Direct Delivery Fire Academies  and PCFD1 courses are held at our facilities providing opportunities for IFSAC certification including Firefighter I and II, HMA, HMO, Fire Instructor I and II, and Officer I. Other certification courses and training are available for the highly motivated, dynamic professional seeking a department where they can grow and develop.

District 1 response area includes the 32 sq. mile North Beach Peninsula (Long Beach Peninsula) with the exception of the communities of Long Beach and Ilwaco. In the response area are several State Parks including one of Washington States most popular vacation parks - Cape Disappointment State Park at the south end of the response area. Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from nearly 26 miles of public beach to the west and the east is bordered by the shore of Willapa Bay. In between are residential neighborhoods dotted with light commercial buildings. During periods of high tourism, the population on the peninsula can to swell to 100,000 or more. Driving the tourism industry is a robust festival schedule including popular events like Rod Run to the End of the World and Fourth of July events. Hiring Status

Pacific County Fire District #1 has two immediate openings for Firefighter/Paramedic.

Salary Information

Entry Level Firefighter Paramedics work a 49 hour workweek (48/96) with a wage range of $6,117.21 - $7,807.28/Month. 

Benefit Information

District 1 pays 100% of the medical and dental insurance premiums for employee and all qualified dependents. WFCA First Choice Health PPO 300 plan ($300/$900 deductible, 80%/20% Co-insurance). Washington Delta Dental Services.

VEBA with $2,000 District annual contribution  paid in February for employees with continuous 12 month District 1 employment

Life Insurance benefit paid by employer.

Retirement benefit under the Washington State LEOFF 2 plan. 

Vacation accrual starts at 14 hours per month with increases at five (5), ten (10), fifteen (15) and twenty (20) years of continuous service.

Sick leave starting accrual rate of 14 hours per month.

Short term disability (paid by the employee)

Uniforms provided by the employer with additional allowance for boots. 

Compensation for holidays for 24 hour shift employees shall be in the form of 96 hours of pay annually at the employee's regular hourly wage. 

Longevity Pay increases start after ten (10) years of service.

Employees shall receive a premium pay at a rate of two (2%) above their base pay for an Associates Degree or four (4%) for a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.

Educational incentive for reimbursement of books and tuition (employees are eligible after successful completion of probation) with prior approval of the Fire Chief and 3.0 grade point, B or better.

IRS 457 qualified Deferred Compensation program available.

Fifteen (15) Kelly days are chosen by the employee yearly by seniority with one (1) twenty-four Kelly day in each 24 day work cycle.
