Community Information

Incorporated in 1889 Orting is one of the oldest cities in Washington. The 2.8 square mile town is nestled in the foothills of Mt. Rainier between the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers. The City has a population of approximately 9,000 and is currently experiencing significant growth. The community minded town hosts a number of events, parades and festivals throughout the year bringing its citizens together. Orting boasts stunning views of Mt Rainier and access to the Foothills Trail system for biking, running and outdoor adventures.

Department Information

The Orting Police Department is made up of 7 officer positions (including one School Resource Officer) one detective, two Lieutenant and one Chief position. The department also employs a civilian records manager and evidence technician to assist the department in its mission.

Salary Information

2024 Patrol Officer salary range: $83,901.20 - 97,281.60

Benefit Information

Education incentive of 2.5% for AA or two years of college; or 5% for BA or four years of college, 7.5% for Masters Degree, longevity and other premium pays.

Prior Experience Requirement Must have worked as a level 3 independent officer within the past four (4) years.
