Department Information

Kirkland Police Department has 155 employees, which includes 109 commissioned officers and 46 support personnel, 20 of which are Corrections Officers.

The Corrections Department is contained within the Administrative Division and provides 24/7 coverage for the departments detention center, which is a one year facility. They are specially commissioned and are required to qualify with and carry department issued firearms in the course of performing their job functions. In addition to working in the detention facility Corrections Officers transport inmates to court and regional jail facilities, handle warrant transfers with other police departments, assist officers in the field with prisoner transports, and provide security to the Kirkland Municipal Court.

In addition to primary assignments, Corrections Officers have several opportunities to become certified instructors in various training cadres. Corrections officers are supported in career development and opportunities. Corrections Officers schedule consists of varied shifts to include days, swings, or graveyards.

The department provides and maintains a high level of equipment and technical support including in-car mobile computing with wireless dispatch and records access.
