Important Information

The Kirkland Fire Department (KFD) will begin the hiring process for entry-level Firefighter in May of 2021. We are planning on hiring 20-25 new Firefighters over the next three years. KFD will request a list of eligible candidates from Public Safety Testing on March 19, 2021. Candidates must have completed a PST written test and have a valid CPAT from any verifiable CPAT testing center by March 19, 2021. The minimum qualifications to apply are 1) must be at least 19 years old, 2) must have a high school diploma or GED, 3) be a US Citizen or lawful permanent resident, or the ability to legally work in the United States by the time of the application. The City of Kirkland is a welcoming community encouraging people of all backgrounds to apply.


Kirkland uses "continuous testing" to periodically establish/update the Civil Service Firefighter eligibility list.   

Under Kirkland's Civil Service system, only the top-scoring applicants on the written test will be invited to interview for the Firefighter position.
