The Glen Ellyn Police Department is accepting applications for entry level police officers and is actively hiring for open positions. Newly appointed officers will attend the Police Training Institute (PTI) at the University of Illinois.

  • Candidates who achieve a passing score and complete all requirements of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will be placed on an eligibility list as determined by their test scores and may remain on this list for a period not to exceed two years.
  • Claimed preference points will be added to the final score once verified and applied to the final eligibility list.
  • Appointment from the Final Eligibility List is subject to satisfactorily passing or completing an in-depth psychological examination, a polygraph test, background investigation, oral interview, and a thorough medical examination.

Department Information

The members of the Glen Ellyn Police Department are proud to provide professional law enforcement services to the more than 28,000 residents that make Glen Ellyn their home and the countless others who work or otherwise visit our community. The Department is staffed by 45 sworn police officers and 18 full and part-time civilian employees. Our staff excels at practicing a customer service approach to law enforcement and prides itself in maintaining the highest standards a of integrity and character.

The Department operates in a modern building (constructed in 2017) on a 12-hour patrol shift schedule. The Investigations division and specialized assignments generally work a Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm shift.

Job Description

Police Officers for the Village of Glen Ellyn perform general law enforcement duties including protecting life and property, enforcing laws and ordinances, responding to calls for service, and engaging in proactive community policing. The position requires strong judgment, communication skills, and a commitment to ethical, professional, and community-focused policing.

Applicants are allowed to claim a maximum of five (5) points.
