Located 25 miles north of Seattle and nestled between Port Gardner Bay and the Snohomish River, Everett is the largest city in Snohomish County, Washington. With a diverse community of more than 110,000 people, Everett is home to the Boeing Company’s largest manufacturing facility. Also located in Everett are Paine Field – recently named the "World's Best Regional Airport" by Monocle Magazine, Washington State University’s newest campus, Everett Community College, Providence Regional Medical Center and Naval Station Everett. The Everett Public School District is ranked 8th overall for the state. Our community is experiencing extensive development on our riverfront and waterfront while revitalization projects take place in the downtown core. Everett continues to attract new businesses as well as expansion facilities from employers such as Amazon and FedEx.

The City of Everett employs 6 Engine Companies, 2 Ladder Companies (1 cross staffed), 3 Medic units, and 3 Aid Cars. The department also has cross staffed HazMat and Technical Rescue units. There are six (6) fire stations located throughout the city. There are 180 uniformed firefighters employed. In 2021 the Department had a total call volume of approximately 24,508, of which about 20,735 being EMS incidents.
In compliance with the Washington State Governor’s Proclamation 21-14-1, all employees in this classification shall be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless the employee is granted a medical or religious exemption that the City can reasonably accommodate.

Vacancies are filled by the Civil Service eligible register. Names of the three top ranked applicants on the Experienced Firefighter certified eligibility list will be forwarded to the appointing authority for additional screenings and selection as vacancies occur.
Recruitment Drive: winter/spring 2022. All candidates must apply through the City of Everett Website. Oral Boards are tentatively scheduled for April 20 and 21, 2022. Top scoring applicants will be contacted during week of April 4th, 2022 to schedule oral panel. (1) Minimum of one year full time professional firefighter (structural) experience.
(2) Successful completion of the Washington State Fire Academy (equivalencies or reciprocals must be approved by the Fire Chief).
(3) Current certification at the IFSAC FF-I, FF-II and HazMat Ops level OR five years continuous employment as a professional (structural) firefighter (professional includes only those firefighters who are paid full time 40+ hours per week)
(4) Possession of a current State of Washington, Department of Social and Health Services certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and maintain such certification for the duration of employment.
(5) Excellent physical condition.
(6) U.S. Citizenship.
(7) Attainment of the age of twenty-one (21) years.
(8) Possession of, and the ability to maintain for the duration of employment, a current valid Washington State Driver License and maintain such license for the duration of employment.
(9) Attainment of the Fire Department’s standards of physical condition.
(10) Submission to a thorough background check; psychological, physical, and medical check; employment reference check; and verification of all applicable certifications.
(11) Must become FF II by completion of probation.
(12) Successfully complete and maintain Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) qualifications.

The following are automatic and potential disqualifiers. Applicants should not apply to our agency if they indicate any of the automatic disqualifiers. Potential disqualifiers will be considered on a case by case basis.
TESTING IN WASHINGTON STATE CANCELED THROUGH MAY 31, 2020
All pre-employment tests in Washington State have been canceled until May 31, 2020 unless government restrictions are eased. With recent updates, facility closures, and government guidelines, this step is necessary and could be modified at any time. The health and safety of our customers, our staff, and their families is of the highest priority.
We will continue to evaluate developments and make changes to this policy as necessary. When we do resume testing, there will be plenty of events for everyone to test. We are in regular communication with our public safety agency partners, assessing alternatives to the traditional testing model and our testing policies. Any future updates will be posted on the PST website and our Facebook page.
If you have tested with PST in the past 12 months, there may be additional positions you are now eligible to add. Several departments have temporarily changed their testing policies due to the suspension in testing that COVID-19 has caused. Please login to your PST account and navigate to the ‘New Positions’ page to see what departments you can add! We will regularly update that page in your account as departments send updates.
FUTURE TEST REGISTRATION
We know that there will be testing in the future - we just don’t know when! We want you to be prepared for when testing begins again so we have created test events on our calendar that you can register for that will place you in a queue to be first notified. These tests are not “real” test events, they are essentially a holding area. You will be able to “reschedule” out of that event to any other event date/location at no cost. Registering now will also give you time to work on your Personal History Statement (PHS) so that your data will be ready and up-to-date to send to your departments once testing resumes.
