Step 1
Pass the initial written exam and complete the physical agility tests required for obtaining your Power Card.

 Step 2
Pass the application screening process and participate in the interview examination.

Step 3
Successfully complete the full background investigation, including the medical exam, psychological exam, and polygraph test.

Step 4
Attend and successfully complete a 16‑week Basic Police Training Academy in accordance with Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board requirements.

Step 5
Upon graduating from the academy, enter the Field Training Program, partnering with an experienced officer for approximately 14 weeks.

The Brookfield Police Department is hiring immediately for the Fall 2026 Police Academy. Qualified candidates selected through the eligibility process will receive conditional offers of employment in advance of academy enrollment.

The Brookfield Police Department is hiring one to two (1–2) recruits immediately for sponsorship in the Fall 2026 Police Academy and anticipates additional hiring as staffing needs dictate. Qualified candidates selected through the eligibility process will receive conditional offers of employment prior to academy enrollment.

Salary Information

  • Starting Salary: $77,559

  • Top Salary (after 7 years): $114,900 (not including holiday pay (approximately $5,700 annually))

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off

These wages are guaranteed through 2026 under our current union contract. A new contract will be negotiated soon for 2027 and beyond, and additional pay increases are expected as part of that process.
