Department Information

The Police Department enjoys great support from the community and the current administration, which includes the City Administrator, Mayor and Council. The department is comprised of a 32 Commissioned Officers (Police Chief, 2 Assistant Chiefs, 5 Sergeants, 25 Police Officers) and 7.5 Non-Commissioned Officers (2.5 Community Service Officers, 3 Records Clerks, a Confidential Administrative Assistant, and a Child Passenger Safety Manager). In addition, to the regular duties of a Police Officer. the department also offers opportunities for ancillary duties to include, but not limited to: Marine Services Unit, Investigations, Metro Tactical Response Team, Field Training Officer, Specialized Traffic Emphasis, Public Information Officer, School Resource Officer, Metro Collision Response Team, CJTC TAC Officer, Firearms Instructor and other opportunities.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Benefit Information

The City of Bonney Lake provides a comprehensive health and benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, orthodontia, employee assistant program, short and long term disability, and life insurance for employees and their eligible dependents. Vacation accrual begins at 12 days per year and increases with years of service. The City also recognizes 12 paid holidays (with in-lieu of holiday replacement time for police officers). Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours per month. Employees are eligible for the LEOFF 2 retirement system through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems and also provides a deferred compensation match. Officers that reside within 15 miles of the City limits may also drive their assigned department squad car home.
