Riverside Police Department – Department Description

The Riverside Police Department is committed to providing professional, responsive, and community-focused law enforcement services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of the Village of Riverside, Illinois. The Department works to maintain public safety, protect life and property, prevent and investigate crime, enforce applicable laws and ordinances, and foster positive relationships throughout the community.

The Department operates under the leadership of a Public Safety Director, with day-to-day police operations supported by a Deputy Chief and Commander. The Riverside Police Department has a total of 21 sworn officers, including members of the command staff. The Department is structured to provide effective supervision, accountability, and operational coverage while maintaining a strong focus on service to the community.

The Department operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, providing continuous police coverage throughout the year. This schedule allows the Department to maintain around-the-clock patrol services and a consistent law enforcement presence within the Village.

In addition to responding to calls for service and conducting routine patrol operations, Riverside Police Department personnel are responsible for traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, community engagement, emergency response, ordinance enforcement, and other public safety functions. Officers work collaboratively with Village departments, neighboring law enforcement agencies, fire and emergency medical services, and other community partners to address public safety needs.

Police Officer Minimum Requirements:
• U.S. citizenship or be legally authorized to work in the United States
• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Valid driver’s license
• At least 21 years of age as of application due date, and under 35 years of age at the time the eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by statute
• No felony convictions
• Proof of passing the Illinois POWER test within the past year at the time of your potential interview. POWER Test cards are accepted from the following locations or any other licensed agency: Joliet Junior College - Joliet, IL or NIPSTA - Glenview, IL
• Submit online application and all supporting documentation by September 12, 2026
