Step 1
Pass the initial written exam and complete the physical agility tests required for obtaining your Power Card.

Step 2
Pass the application screening process and participate in the interview examination.

Step 3
Successfully complete the full background investigation, including the medical exam, psychological exam, and polygraph test.

Step 4
Receive approval for hire from the Woodridge Board of Police Commissioners

Step 5 
Attend and successfully complete a 16‑week Basic Police Training Academy in accordance with Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board requirements.

Step 6
Upon graduating from the academy, enter the Field Training Program, partnering with an experienced officer for approximately 26 weeks.

The men and women of the Police Department are proud to serve the Village of Woodridge. The mission of the Woodridge Police Department is to provide dedicated, professional service and impartial law enforcement in an active partnership with the citizens of the Village of Woodridge to achieve a higher quality of life for all. The Woodridge Police Department is committed to serving the community with professionalism, transparency, and a strong focus on public safety. Our personnel respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, enforce criminal and traffic laws, investigate reported offenses, and provide a wide range of support services to residents, businesses, and visitors. Just as importantly, we continue to build relationships through community outreach, social work support, crime prevention efforts, and everyday interactions with the people we serve.

Woodridge Police Department consists of 52 Sworn personnel. Patrol Officers work 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off.

The Woodridge Police Department provides a full array of law enforcement services: Uniformed Patrol, Investigations, Tactical Unit, Traffic Unit, Community Outreach Unit, Records, and Community Service Officers. Additional Compensation is available for the following specialty assignments:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and under the age 35 as of the application deadline, unless exempt from age limitations as provided by statute.
  • Binocular vision corrective to 20/30.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and legally permitted to possess firearms in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Residency within 30 miles of corporate limits of the Village within six months of hire.
  • Education Requirement: At time of filing an application for original appointment to the Police Department, applicant must have graduated from an accredited high school or hold a G.E.D Certificate.
  • Attend virtual orientation session and pass all phases of testing process.

Effective 1/1/2026, the entry level step is $84,780.80 annually.  Step 8 is the top step at $126,526.40 annually.

Option for additional compensation for certain specialty assignments.

a. Cannot perform the essential functions of the tested-for position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

c. To have been dismissed from any prior employer for good cause;

d. To have practiced any deception or fraud in the applicant’s application;

f. To have failed to attend any phase of the testing process;

g. To have failed to fulfill any of the requirements for applicants which are set forth in these Rules and Regulations;

j. To be otherwise unqualified for service in the Police Department.

Any applicant disqualified hereunder shall be notified in writing by the Board of such disqualification. All determinations by the Board in this regard shall be final.
