The City of Spokane will allow applicants to apply with new scores once every 12 months.

Hiring Status

Spokane Police Department - Police Officer has 11 vacancies.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing, which is maintained and refreshed on a quarterly basis as scores are received from PST. Oral board interviews are conducted on an as needed basis. Vacancies are filled by the Civil Service "rule of ten", with the top ten candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation and selection as vacancies occur. Once a candidate has passed the test, the candidate will receive an invitation from the City of Spokane, to complete an application form through the City's jobs page (my.spokanecity.org). The City of Spokane will accept applications for a two-week period, following each quarterly refresh date.

Salary Information

Police Officers currently earn the following base salaries:

  • $65,980.80 annually year one
  • $75,063.60 annually year two
  • $102,416.40 annually year three
  • $104,441.76 upon completion of five years of service

Senior Police Officers earn the following base salaries:

  • $107,156.16 annually year one
  • $109,306.80 annually year five
  • $111,457.44 annually year ten

Benefit Information

• Major medical, including dental and vision insurance at group rates for employees and family

• Pay periods every other week

• New employees’ paid vacation accrues at 5.69 hours per pay period in addition to 40 floating holiday hours provided yearly, totaling a possible 188 paid hours off in the first year

• Sick leave accrues at 6 hours per pay period with no maximum

• The City of Spokane will reimburse all tuition for completion of law enforcement college coursework, including graduate degrees

• The City of Spokane contributes 6.2% into a 529 deferred compensation program with only a 4% match from the employee

• Shift differential pay, up to 2.25% for Fourth Shift Officers

• Education incentives for college degrees and specialty unit pay incentives

• Four patrol shifts working a 10:40 work day: 5 days on, 4 days off, 5 days on, 4 days off, 5 days on, 5 days off

The following are automatic and potential disqualifiers. Applicants should not apply to our agency if they indicate any of the automatic disqualifiers. Potential disqualifiers will be considered on a case by case basis.
