Lateral applicants and BLEA certified applicants are accepted for this classification.  The written examination is no longer required.  Recent BLEA trained applicants not off probation may be reviewed on an individual basis. The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Current Deputy Salary:

Rate of pay will be dependent upon years of experience:

No previous experience starts at $80,686.75-$105,251.76 (Top Step). 

Incentives are given for education, shift, and premiums.

Skagit County no longer requires the written examination for lateral or exceptional candidates.  Please update your Personal History Statement (PHS) if you haven't already and upload your BLEA certification or equivalent out of state certification/experience approved by the CJTC as an attachment.

Applicants with a current Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Peace Officer Certification may be granted a PAT waiver. Others are required to pass the PAT.

Possess a current Peace Officer Certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Prior Experience Requirement Successfully completed probation with a Washington State law enforcement agency.

If law enforcement experience is from out-of-state the applicant must meet the Criminal Justice Training Commission's requirements for Basic law enforcement certificate of equivalency (WAC 139-05-210).

Have no more than a 24-month break in service since the most recent law enforcement employer.
