  • IFSAC Firefighter I Certification or completion of 80-120 hours IFSTA "Essentials of Firefighting" course

Department Information

The Selkirk Fire, Rescue & EMS system was formed through a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) between the City of Sandpoint, Sagle Fire District, and Westside Fire District. It proudly serves the Sandpoint, Sagle and Westside communities of Bonner County, Idaho. The Selkirk Fire JPA system protects approximately 25,000 people in 194 square miles. Our fire stations are strategically located throughout our service area, ensuring a quick and immediate response to any situation. Our service area includes the following cities and unincorporated portions of Bonner County: Bottle Bay, Careywood, Cocolalla, Dover, Garfield Bay, Laclede, Sagle, Sandpoint, Westmond, Willow Bay, and Wrenco. 

The mission of Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS is to preserve life, property and the environment through dedication, preparedness and quality customer service. Our staff includes a Fire Chief,  Deputy Fire Chief, 9 career Firefighters with the City of Sandpoint, 12 career Firefighters with the Sagle Fire District, and 3 career Firefighters with the Westside Fire District. Our community is served from 4 full-time staffed stations and 4 volunteer stations.

Hiring Status

Applicants are placed on an 18-month hiring list from the date of a passing written exam to fill current and future vacancies. Candidates are welcome to retake the test to remain on the list beyond the 18-months.

Prior FF Experience Required We do not send new hires to a Fire Training Academy. Prior experience is preferred, but not required.
