Candidates must be able and willing to attend the Rural Police Officer Training Program (RPOTP) at the FLETC in Artesia, New Mexico. The RPOTP is 12 weeks in length.

Testing may be waived for Lateral Level candidates.

To be considered for Lateral :

Must be currently certified as a police officer and have worked as a police officer during the past two years and have no break-in-service.

Graduate of the Washington Training Commission Basic Academy or Bureau of Indian Affairs Basic Police Training or other tribal/state-approved basic academy. Must submit proof of Academy certification.

Washington State Equivalency examination within one year of hire as a condition of employment.

Must be able to obtain a cross-commission through Pierce County Sheriff’s Department within the first year of employment.
