Department Information

The Nampa Fire Department operates under the vision of Excellence - Service - Strength in Unity, and through the core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Compassion, Professionalism, and Safety. The response compliment is comprised of five fire stations, housing four engine companies, one truck company, one ladder company, one squad, and one battalion chief. Daily staffing is 27 line personnel and 15 administrative and training personnel.

Job Responsibilities

The principal function of an employee in this class is to respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. Exposure to hazardous materials, large quantities of smoke, heavy traffic areas, intense heat, direct exposure to flames, decimated structures, extreme weather conditions, blood- borne pathogens, and other related environments in which individual is subject to potential personal danger.

Hours:

The successful candidate must be able to work flexible and varied hours. Currently, line personnel work a 56 hour work week on a 48/96 scheduled cycle.


Application Procedure:

Applicants applying for the Entry Level Fire Fighter / EMT eligibility roster must meet the minimum requirements below.

  • Possess a current EMT-B (or higher) certification.
  • Completion of the PST written exam by December 11, 2020.

If selected to continue in the eligibility process, the applicant will be required to successfully pass a firefighter physical agility test. **This test is pass/fail and evaluates your strength, endurance, and agility. For candidates who pass the physical agility test there will be a scored oral interview.

The oral interview. The panel of interviewers will ask the applicant questions to gain insight into your and ability to perform as a fire fighter EMT for the Nampa Fire Department. We are interested in your prior education and/or experience, your reasons for seeking a position as a fire fighter, and why you feel you would be a good member for the Nampa Fire team.

The successful candidate’s employment will be contingent on the following:

Prior to appointment, a candidate will be required to pass a driving record check, background investigation, medical exam by Nampa Fire Department’s physician, and drug/alcohol screen paid for by the Nampa Fire Department.

It is the successful applicant’s responsibility to notify Nampa City Human Resources of any change of address and/or telephone number during the term of the eligibility list.

Once contingencies have been met by the successful applicant, they will attend a fire department orientation academy (Monday through Friday 8 am - 5 pm, not to exceed 14 weeks) prior to being assigned to shift scheduling.
