Island County is located in the beautiful waters of the Puget Sound surrounded by the Olympics and Cascades Mountains. Island County consist of Whidbey and Camano Islands accessible by bridge ferry or aircraft. Deception Pass State Park, located on the northern tip of Whidbey Island is the most visited park in the state. The Island County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 81 employees. The criminal division holds 42 fully commissioned sworn deputies who serve three precincts on two islands, the Town of Coupeville and a major crimes unit. The corrections division is made up of 22 corrections deputies that operate a 58 bed jail. Both divisions are supported by a robust civil division. Collateral duty units include the Critical Response Unit and Marine Safety Unit. It is the mission of the Island County Sheriff’s Office to provide unbiased, community oriented police services in order to maintain and enhance Island County’s reputation as a safe, thriving community where residents and visitors can safely live, work and visit. Benefit Information

Benefits include: up to 840 hours of PTO with possible yearly payout, Uniforms and duty gear provided on initial hire and an additional $1,000 clothing allowance yearly (after your first year), LEOFF Trust Plan F Medical (Employer covers 90% of cost) with a $175 monthly VEBA contribution, County paid Dental, Vision and Life Insurance. Shift differential for Swing/Mid shifts, 3% Specialty Pay for Special Assignments, 120 hour comp bank, 4 day work week and PSERS Plan 2 Retirement.

Automatic Illegal use of ANY controlled substance while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
Automatic Illegal opiate use.
Potential Other drug use outside these standards will be considered on case by case basis.
Automatic No illegal sale of ANY drug, including marijuana.
Automatic Pattern of illegal use of prescription medication.
Automatic Any use of L.S.D.
Automatic Used (tried) illegally any narcotic or dangerous drug by injection.
Automatic Used illegally any other dangerous drugs or narcotics (marijuana included) other than for experimentation within the past 7 years. The use of an illegal drug is presumed to be not for experimentation by the Island County Sheriff's Office if: 1.) The use of marijuana exceeds a total of 10 times or exceeds 5 times in the past 7 years. 2.) The use of dangerous drugs or narcotics, other than marijuana, exceeds a total of 2 times in the past 7 years.

Criminal Activity

Automatic Has a validated history of criminal physical violence, or has been convicted of a crime of domestic violence as defined by 18.U.S.C. 921 (A) (33) (A).
Automatic Maintains an on-going relationship with individual(s) who have been convicted of felony crimes and who are reputed to be involved in recent or current felonious activity.
Automatic Any affiliations with, and/or support of any organization or group which advocates the violent overthrow of the State or of the United States Government, or whose professional goals are contrary to the interest of public safety and welfare.

Automatic 3 or more terminations, or leaving employer in lieu of termination.
Automatic Withdrawn from consideration for any (law enforcement/fire/corrections/dispatch) employment because of the following reasons: Dishonesty.

Automatic Falsified his or her application, personal history questionnaire, or any other forms during hiring process.

Potential Current credit accounts, or unresolved accounts in collection will be carefully reviewed.

Potential The following may, upon review by the Island County Sheriff's Office, make you ineligible to become an Island County Corrections Deputy Sheriff: -Alcohol or substance misuse and or abuse. -Commission of a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor. -Any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession and the Island County Sheriff's Office. -An inability to perform the essential functions of a Corrections Deputy Sheriff.
