Hiring Status

Continuously hiring 

Entry Level applicants please test through Public Safety Testing. Scores are pulled on an as-need basis, with oral boards scheduled depending upon vacancies occurring within the department.

Lateral applicants do not test through Public Safety Testing, instead you can apply directly by visiting the City of Fife job line to apply as a lateral Police Officer. Lateral applicants do not complete a written or physical agility test. Upon application screening, lateral applicants are scheduled for oral boards on an as-need basis depending upon vacancies occurring within the department. The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.


Salary Information

2023 $81,762.72 - $107,055.00 Annually

Fife Officers have opportunity receive additional pay, including:

Patrol Shift Differential: Patrol Officers have the ability to work on a 10 or 12-hour shift schedule with shift differential pay for officers working graveyard shift.

Education Incentive Pay: AA/AAS degree $125 per month, qualifying BA degree $200 per month, qualifying MA degree $270 per month incentive.

Specialty Pay: Build your career with Fife. Career development is a department priority. We offer exceptional ongoing training as well as specialty assignments such as Tactical Response Operator/Negotiator, Detectives, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, Certified Technical Collision Investigator, Certified Collision Reconstructionist, Command Vehicle Operator, Officer-In Charge, and opportunities as a department instructor. Though Fife is geographically small, there is no shortage of opportunities for growth.

Accreditation Incentive: As the Department maintains WASPC accreditation, all bargaining unit members will receive a 1% base wage increase. Fife PD reaccredited in April of 2020.

Bilingual Incentive: Premium pay available for eligible Officers.

Longevity Pay: Offered after 7 years of service starting at 3% per monthly salary with continued increases.

Deferred Compensation: Fife Officers have the opportunity to contribute to the qualified, deferred compensation plan, with the City matching contribution funds each month with continued increases to 2023.



Benefit Information


Medical/Dental/VisionThe City pays 97% of the medical insurance premiums and 96% of dental and vision premiums for employees and their dependents. The City also contributes to a VEBA or HSA.

Paid Leave: After one year of continuous service, a full-time employee is granted 96 hours of vacation, and 8 additional hours of vacation for every completed year of continuous service thereafter up to a maximum of 240 hours of vacation per year. Employees are granted up to 13 working days off without loss of pay as holidays. Sick leave for injury or illness is accrued at the rate of 8 hours per month up to 96 hours each year.

RetirementFife Police Officers are mandatory members of the State of Washington Law Enforcement Officers’ and Firefighters’ Retirement System (LEOFF 2). Employees and the City jointly contribute to the plan.

EquipmentThe City provides all initial gear upon hire and thereafter a generous yearly uniform allowance of $1,500. Officers participate in a take-home vehicle program upon completion of field training. Fife PD is almost entirely equipped with SUV’s with some of the most sophisticated gear being installed in our fleet.
