Important Information

The Hillsboro Police Department is continuously recruiting for current and future vacancies for Entry Level Police Officers. Applicants who submit PST written scores will be required to submit an application of employment through the City of Hillsboro's website. PST PAT scores are not accepted. Applicants must submit valid ORPAT scores from the last 12 months. Applicants without an ORPAT score will be invited to an ORPAT session hosted by the Hillsboro Police Department. 

The written exam is only required for Entry Level Police Officer applicants. If you are an experienced sworn/commissioned Police Officer with a valid certification, please submit an application for Lateral Police Officer through the City's website

The Entry Level Police Officer position is a professional, sworn position that performs law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrol and investigation; apprehension of criminals, preservation of peace and protection of life and property; enforces Federal, State and local laws; practices the principles of Community Policing; does related work as required. The Police Officer position is covered under the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement.

The Hillsboro Police Department is currently seeking candidates to fill a list of current and future vacancies. Our hiring processes are split into six-week application periods to allow for processing and scheduling.

Salary Information

Base salary ranges from $80,748 to $101,700. With incentives, officers can make up to $125,801. Incentives include 4% DPSST Intermediate Certification, 4% DPSST Advanced Certification, Maximum 10% specialty assignment pay, 5% Bilingual Pay (Spanish & Japanese), $210 Annual Wellness Reimbursement, $500 Annual Fitness Incentive.

The Hillsboro Police Department benefits package includes family medical, dental, and vision insurance, employee life, statutory life for sworn members, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability insurance, retirement in Oregon’s PERS/OPSRP program where the City of Hillsboro picks up the employees monthly 6% contributions, holidays, vacation, sick leave, education reimbursement program, Voluntary Employee’s Beneficiary Association (VEBA) accounts, voluntary health promotion program, employee assistance program, credit union and deferred compensation programs.

Applicants who submit scores to the Hillsboro Police Department will be required to complete an Entry Level Police Officer application through the City of Hillsboro's website. Application processes are generally open/close every 6-weeks to allow for processing and scheduling. If a process is currently closed, please ensure you submit an application during the next open application period. Employment applications must be received to consider your submitted PST scores.

LEO/CO Physical Ability Test (PAT) No, not required (may be required later)

The Hillsboro Police Department does not accept PAT scores from outside of Oregon. Candidates will be required to pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT). Applicants who successfully pass the application review phase will be invited to participate in the ORPAT administered by the Hillsboro Police Department. If an applicant has completed the ORPAT and has a passing score of 5:30 or less within the last 12 months, you will not need to retest. Prior ORPAT scores can be attached to your application.
