Community Information

Walla Walla is a City of almost 34,000 people nestled close to the foothills of the Blue Mountains. It is the home of Whitman College and Walla Walla Community College (named the best CC in the nation in 2013). Walla Walla is also home for some of the best wine makers in the world. Over the past 10-15 years, the wine industry has helped Walla Walla reinvent itself into a tourism destination. The downtown has been revitalized and most weekends from Spring through the end of Fall are filled with different events which draw visitors from across the country. From theaters and museums to biking, hiking, golf, and spa time, Walla Walla offers a little bit of everything wonderful. Soaked in sunshine, it’s the perfect place to dive into the great outdoors from mountains and rivers to trails and viewpoints, residents can enjoy the ideal combination of adventures.

Walla Walla is also the site of the State's maximum security penitentiary. The Penitentiary helps supply the community with stable, family wage jobs. The Walla Walla Public Schools provide a solid education for the children of our community, however if a private, religious based education is to your suiting, there are three private schools available.

Service to Our Community

The Walla Walla Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency providing these services and more to the community: Patrol, Drug Detection and Patrol K9, Investigations, Computer Forensics, Drug / Gang Task Force, Crime Prevention Programs, Crime Victim Advocacy, Animal Control, Code Enforcement, Parking Enforcement, Police Records, Property and Evidence, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, and Drone Team.

Salary Information

$5962 entry level based on 2021 contract wages. Contract is currently under negotiation. 

Educational Incentive Pay - AA Degree - 3%

Educational Incentive Pay - BA Degree - 6%

Bilingual Spanish Incentive Pay - 3%

*Additional specialty pay can be obtained based on specialty assignments.
