Important Information

East Grays Harbor Fire/Rescue has one immediate opening for a Firefighter/Paramedic. The application and testing deadline is February 1st, 2024 at 5 pm. Successful candidates will be invited for an oral board and medical scenarios at a later date. Qualified candidates will be notified of acceptance and provided with future testing dates and important information. 

A background investigation, psychological testing, and medical exam will take place after a conditional offer of employment.

Community Information

East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue is located about 25 miles from Olympia, WA. This small community is centrally positioned south of the Olympic Mountains and East of Pacific Ocean Beaches. This area provides a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, and many ATV trails.

Department Information

East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue is an all-services combination fire department providing and not limited to the services listed below:

  • Fire Protection Services, Residential, Commercial and Property
  • Hazmat Operations Level mitigation
  • Emergency Medical Services – On-call 911 services for East Grays Harbor County.
  • Inter-Facility Medical Transports (transports from Local Hospitals to other care facilities)
  • EMS Event Standby (Car Races, Motorcycle events, Rodeo and Fairground events)
  • Rescue – EGHFR continues to do ongoing training in all types of rescue
  • Motor Vehicle Collision response, and extrication. EGHFR handles one of the largest and fastest (speed) roadways in the county; responding to accidents for extrication and injuries.

EGHFR provides Emergency Medical Response and Transport along with Fire and Rescue Services to the communities of Bush Creek, Rural Elma, City of Elma, Malone, Porter, and Satsop in East Grays Harbor County. EGHFR is also the contract provider for EMS services including Basic and Paramedic level services to the City of McCleary and Grays Harbor Fire District 12. EGHFR's response area is 300 square miles and serves approximately a population of 12,000.  

East Grays Harbor Fire/Rescue has a total of 5 stations, with the headquarters station located at 112 N 2nd St. in Elma, WA staffed 24/7. EGHFR has 30 staff members currently, which includes: 1 Fire Chief, 1 full-time administrative assistant, 1 part-time administrative assistant, 10 Career Staff with either EMT or Paramedic level certifications, and 17 Volunteers with varying certification levels. EGHFR works a modified Detroit schedule per their IAFF Local 4075 union contract. The 24/7, 365 day coverage is provided by 3 shifts, each supervised by a captain. 

Most of our call volume consists of 911 calls for emergency medical services (EMS). The nearest ER is Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, WA, which is a critical access hospital. For patients requiring higher levels of care, EGHFR will transport patients to Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen, WA, Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA, or Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

Salary Information

The starting Salary for entry level is $77,791.63. Salary for lateral candidates will be determined based on certifications and years of experience.
