Test scores will be requested on January 2, 2024 with interviews to be conducted mid-January.  The District anticipates hiring for at least three positions in the next six months, with the possibility of additional positions. An eligibility list will be established for future potential positions.

Must be at least EMT -B certified with valid CPAT at time of initial offer. Preference will be given to candidates with paramedic certification. CPAT requirement may be waived for candidates who are currently employed as a full-time firefighter.

Community Information

The community's population is approximately 18,000 and is generally viewed as a quiet rural bedroom style community. The boundaries of the Key Peninsula are located in the West region of Pierce County, near Gig Harbor. The Key Peninsula boundaries extend to Kitsap County on the north and Mason County to the west and is surrounded by 45 miles of shoreline. 

Department Information

Pierce County Fire Protection District #16, is also known as the Key Peninsula Fire Department. The Department operates with a combination of volunteer and career personnel consisting of approximately 25 Volunteer members and a full time 24-hour staff of about 40 members. The Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief and Administrative Support staff are assigned to days. Fire suppression, ALS/BLS first response, ALS/BLS transport, and water-based special operations are primary mission services of the department. The department takes an active role in educating the Key Peninsula Community through tours of fire stations, and equipment, and offering fire/health safety classes on- and off-site through a full time Fire Prevention Specialist position.

Hiring Status

Pierce County Fire Protection District #16 (Key Peninsula) - Firefighter has 3 vacancies.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are requested from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. The top three candidates will be forwarded to the Fire Chief.

Number of Current Vacancies: 3 /  Test scores will be requested on January 2, 2024 with interviews to be conducted in mid-January. 

An eligibility list will be established with the expectation of future vacancies.

Salary Information

All wages and benefits are negotiated by Key Peninsula Firefighters Local 3152, IAFF. The current contract expires December 31, 2025. The probationary wage for a Firefighter/EMT-B in 2018 is $5132.77 monthly, with a generous benefits package.


Benefit Information

Benefits include 100% paid medical and dental for the employee. Medical and dental benefits for spouse and dependents covered at 100% plus an HRA account of $1,000.  Deferred Compensation for 2024 is equal to 5.75% of Firefighter 1st class wage.
