Required Certifications: Essentials of Firefighting or Firefighter I and EMT

Qualifications:

2 or more consecutive years as a full-time firefighter or part-time firefighter at a fire agency in the United States within 12 months prior to application deadline;

OR 4 or more consecutive years as a residential firefighter at a fire agency in the United States within 12 months prior to application deadline;

OR 6 or more consecutive years as a volunteer firefighter at a fire agency in the United States within 12 months prior to application deadline.

Candidates will need to successfully pass the PST and CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) within the last 12 months prior to application deadline.


Community Information

Located on the northern shores of Lake Pend Oreille and extending north to the Bonner/Boundary County line, Northside Fire District contains some of the most beautiful and rugged country North Idaho has to offer. At 115 square miles, Northside is one of the largest fire districts in Bonner County and protects two major highways, three different railways, and a portion of the TransCanada pipeline. The citizens and visitors of our district are protected and cared for by the Chief, Captain and 2 full-time firefighters along with 15 volunteers.

Department Information

Northside Fire District consists of 4 stations containing 4 engines, 4 tenders, 3 brush trucks, 1 rescue unit, 2 command vehicles and 1 rescue boat. The District is overseen by a Board of 3 Fire Commissioners. The District has one station containing living quarters and is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The full-time staff work a 48/96 schedule.  Northside Fire District is responsible for fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical ALS response, technical rescues, fire code inspections and fire investigations.  We also assist in fire suppression with the Idaho Department of Lands and have a mutual aid agreement with other agencies in Bonner and Boundary Counties.

Job Description

Duties

Respond to all alarms

In addition to emergency calls, perform such other duties as required including full cooperation with other members of the District, full participation in the training program, maintenance of the quarters and equipment, and perform other related work as their superior officers may direct.

· Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with the policies, procedures and safety practices.

· Perform all the functions of a Firefighter

· Will be responsible for the inspection of buildings for fire hazards to ensure compliance with all applicable codes

· Responsible for maintenance and repair of all firefighting equipment

· Participate in emergency rescue procedures

· Perform fire prevention education programs

· Will be required to function as an apparatus operator

Knowledge of: 

· Modern firefighting and prevention methods and equipment

· Geography, building conditions and major fire hazards throughout the District

· Current trends regarding the administration of firefighting and fire prevention activities

· Municipal budgeting for District operations

· Effective management and supervisory practices

Ability to:

· Operate a variety of firefighting equipment apparatus

· Maintain certification levels that result in ability to perform firefighting and emergency response duties

· Exercise initiative, resourcefulness, dependability and sound judgment in emergencies

· Make sound decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established polices

· Demonstrate effective customer service and interpersonal skills

· Follow written and oral instruction

· Prepare and maintain records, documents, financial accounts and related reports

· Operate standard office equipment and a personal computer including program applications appropriate to assigned duties

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, supervisors and managers, vendors, Fire Commissioners and the general public

· Perform time management, organizational and scheduling functions, meet deadlines and set task priorities

· Use logical and creative thought processes to develop reasonable solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions

· Work independently, with minimal supervision, and make appropriate decisions in the absence of a supervisor

· Work well under pressure and maintain a calm and professional demeanor under stressful or adversarial conditions

· Demonstrate patience, integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks

Qualifications

· Must be 18 years of age

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Possess a valid driver’s license

· Essentials of Firefighting or Firefighter 1

· Driver Operator certification ***

· Must possess and maintain an Idaho EMT Basic or National Registry EMT certification or at time of appointment

· Must successfully pass a written exam, physical agility test and an oral interview

· Must pass a medical exam and drug screen test that meets physical requirements set forth by Northside Fire District/NFPA 1582

***If current Firefighters do not meet this qualification, 1 year will be given to obtain as of date of hire.

Annual Salary for a Firefighter/EMT is $ 42,253.00 to $45,651.00 depending on experience.
