Whatcom County lies in the furthest northwest corner of both the State of Washington and the continental United States. It is bordered on the north by the Canadian border, on the east by Okanogan County, on the south by Skagit County and on the west by the Strait of Georgia and Bellingham Bay. Vacancies are filled by candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur. 

Salary Information

Per The IAFF#106NW Contract dated 2020-2022, starting pay for Recruit Firefighter (0-6 months)  is $4,735.03/month.  Entry Level Firefighter (7-12  months) pay is $5,284.62/month.  NWFR includes education and longevity incentives.

NWFR offers a generous benefits package including: Medical, dental and life insurance. All represented employees are required to be enrolled in the LEOFF II Retirement System.  Employees receive paid vacation and sick leave.
