Minimum Lateral Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have two (2) years of experience as a career full time paid Firefighter Paramedic with a Municipal Fire Department or District.
  • Current Paramedic certification. State or National licensure accepted. If out of state license, candidate must obtain Idaho licensure within 4 weeks of a conditional offer. Candidate must maintain Paramedic certification throughout employment as a condition of continued employment with Meridian Fire.

Department Information

Meridian Fire Department’s mission is to protect and enhance our community through professionalism and compassion. We provide fire protection, rescue services, and medical first response to the citizens of and visitors to Meridian. Meridian Fire is a premier organization recognized for providing a safe community through professionalism, innovative actions, and community involvement.

The Operations Division is divided into three shifts that staff five engine companies, a ladder company, and is overseen by a shift Battalion Chief. Meridian Fire has 6 fully staffed fire stations. The firefighters work a 48 hour on duty and a 96 hour off duty shift schedule to provide 24 hour a day emergency response, 365 days a year. In addition to the time that our firefighters spend responding to emergency calls, they spend many additional hours enhancing the safety of our community by training for emergencies, conducting fire safety classes and friendly firefighter visits, performing car seat installations, installing smoke detectors, and interacting positively with our community through a variety of other activities.

Salary Information

Lateral Firefighter/ Medics will begin their career with Meridian Fire as a Probationary Firefighter.

Probationary Firefighter base hourly rate - $19.25 per hour, based on a 56 hour work week.

Meridian Fire offers a $2.24 per hour paramedic incentive pay on top of base pay.

Additional education incentives and longevity pay, as well as annual step increases when applicable requirements are met.

Must pass NFPA 1582/ DOT pre-employment physical and medical exam.

Veterans Preference Points

Meridian Fire will ask for documentation for verification purposes. You will be contacted by the department when the documentation is needed.

Paramedic Certification

Idaho Licensure needs to be obtained within 4 weeks of conditional offer. Meridian Fire Administration will assist in the reciprocity process once a conditional offer is made to an applicant. Candidate must maintain Paramedic certification throughout employment as a condition of continued employment with Meridian Fire.

Prior FF Experience Required

Applicants must have two (2) years of experience as a career full time paid Firefighter Paramedic with a Municipal Fire Department or District.

Prior EMT Experience Required

Applicants must have two (2) years of experience as a career full time paid Firefighter Paramedic with a Municipal Fire Department or District.

Body Decorations

While on duty, tattoos will only be displayed on the arms and legs while in uniform. No other visible tattoos are authorized. The display of ANY unprofessional or offensive tattoo or brand (nudity or violence, sexually explicit or vulgar art, words, phrases; profane language, symbols to incite negative reactions, initials or acronyms that represent criminal or oppressive organizations) regardless of its location, while members are in uniform, is prohibited. Final determination regarding the appropriateness of tattoos will be determined by the Fire Chief in conjunction with the President of Local 4627. If visible tattoos are determined to be inappropriate, the employee will responsible for covering such tattoos in a reasonable manner.
