The City of Twin Falls is accepting applications for lateral police officers.
Lateral candidates are not required to test through PST. Lateral candidates must complete the Personal History Statement (PHS) on the PST site to begin the application process.

$2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS: The City of Twin Falls is offering a sign on bonus with the completion of the following steps for Patrol Officers:
- When the recruit successfully completes the hiring process and at the conclusion of the first payroll period, they will receive $500.
- When the recruit completes FTO training and moves to “alone status” they will receive $500.
- When the recruit completes the first year of employment, they will receive $1,000.
To be eligible for the lateral program you must be a sworn law enforcement officer whose primary duty is to perform patrol and/or detective functions with a public agency. Years of service are granted for completed years, no credit is given for partial years of service. No credit will be given for corrections, military policing, or private contract work.
The current benefit package consists of:
- Uniform, weapon, and leather gear.
- Medical insurance through Select Health offering a High Deductible Plan or a PPO Plan (subject to the provision of the Wellness Program) is provided for the employee and his/her family, effective the first of the month following approximately 60 days of employment.
- Dental Insurance is offered through Delta Dental or Willamette Dental and is effective the same day as the health insurance. A small co-pay for dependent coverage is available at the employee’s option and expense.
- Life Insurance with coverage in the amount of $25,000 for the employee is provided at no cost. The employee may purchase additional coverage, should they so desire.
- Long-term disability insurance.
- Retirement plan through PERSI (Public Employees Retirement System of Idaho) that is based on cost-sharing participation. Currently, police/fire members are required to contribute 8.81% of their monthly income to this plan.
- Tuition Reimbursment.
- Sick and Vacation Leave.
- Family Bonding Leave.
- Holiday Hours are added to the vacation leave balance.
General Shift Information
New officers are assigned to our Patrol Division and can expect to work a 12-hour rotating shift (0600-1800 or 1800-0600); including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Each officer is assigned to one of four patrol squads. The Patrol Division is the primary provider of police services to our community and is considered to be the backbone of our department. While many officers choose to remain in patrol for many years, others seek promotions or transfers to specialized units after only a few years in the field. All new City employees serve a 12-month introductory period. Terms and conditions of employment can be changed depending upon cost, funding, and overall policy direction.

Candidates who participate in the physical performance test will be required to complete the Idaho Police Officer Physical Fitness Test Battery (PFTB). The battery is comprised of five tests:

1044.3 TATTOOS While on duty or otherwise representing the Twin Falls Police department, the following guidelines regarding visible body tattoos shall be followed. 1. Tattoos on the head or above the neck are prohibited. The neck is defined as above the collarbone in the front and above the seventh cervicle vertebrae (C7) in the back. Tattoos below the wrist onto the hand are also prohibited. Wedding band tattoos are exempt. 2. Tattoos with objectionable content are prohibited anywhere on the body. Examples include, but are not limited to, tattoos that are drug-related, gang-related, extremist, obscene or indecent, sexist, or racist as defined by policy.
1044.4 BODY PIERCING OR ALTERATION
For the purpose of this policy, body piercing or alteration is defined as any non-medically required
deviation from one's normal, anatomical features that is visible in any authorized uniform and/
or attire. All such piercing and/or alteration are prohibited by this policy except when otherwise
approved by the Chief of Police. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to:
• Tongue splitting or piercing;
• The complete or trans-dermal implantation of any material other than hair replacement
or other reasonable cosmetic treatments;
• Abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, nose or teeth;
• Visible branding or scarification; and,
• More than three earrings per ear.

TESTING IN WASHINGTON STATE CANCELED THROUGH MAY 31, 2020
All pre-employment tests in Washington State have been canceled until May 31, 2020 unless government restrictions are eased. With recent updates, facility closures, and government guidelines, this step is necessary and could be modified at any time. The health and safety of our customers, our staff, and their families is of the highest priority.
We will continue to evaluate developments and make changes to this policy as necessary. When we do resume testing, there will be plenty of events for everyone to test. We are in regular communication with our public safety agency partners, assessing alternatives to the traditional testing model and our testing policies. Any future updates will be posted on the PST website and our Facebook page.
If you have tested with PST in the past 12 months, there may be additional positions you are now eligible to add. Several departments have temporarily changed their testing policies due to the suspension in testing that COVID-19 has caused. Please login to your PST account and navigate to the ‘New Positions’ page to see what departments you can add! We will regularly update that page in your account as departments send updates.
FUTURE TEST REGISTRATION
We know that there will be testing in the future - we just don’t know when! We want you to be prepared for when testing begins again so we have created test events on our calendar that you can register for that will place you in a queue to be first notified. These tests are not “real” test events, they are essentially a holding area. You will be able to “reschedule” out of that event to any other event date/location at no cost. Registering now will also give you time to work on your Personal History Statement (PHS) so that your data will be ready and up-to-date to send to your departments once testing resumes.
