  • Shoshone County Fire District #2 employees are required to live within 15 minutes of a manned station. The successful candidate will be required to relocate within 6 months from the date of hire, as a condition of employment.

Community Information

Shoshone County Fire Protection District No. 2 (district) is located in Western Shoshone and Eastern Kootenai Counties in the Idaho panhandle. Geographically, we are located approximately 70 miles East of Spokane, Washington and 130 miles West of Missoula, Montana on the Interstate 90 corridor. Our District provides Fire and Emergency Medical Services to approximately 185 square miles in a mountainous region with an approximate population of 9,000 permanent citizens and variable seasonal citizens. The district includes four incorporated cities: ten unincorporated communities, a vast area of outlying canyons and drainages. 

Department Information

Shoshone County Fire Protection District #2 provides Fire, Rescue and EMS services to residents in Shoshone and Kootenai Counties. During 2021 more than 1300 calls were responded to by fire personnel. Our district operates out of four fire stations, 2 volunteer and 2 staffed 24/7 with career personnel. We have a staff of 12 career fire fighters, 21 volunteer fire fighters trained for structural and wildland firefighting, there are also 13 non-suppression auxiliary personnel that provide support to the suppression personnel.

The Fire District is contracted to Shoshone County Ambulance Service District to provide staffing for 1 full time ambulance and staffing for a second as needed. The ambulance service district responds in excess of 2000 calls per year.

The 12 career personnel work a 56 hour 48/96 shift schedule.

Salary Information

Probationary Firefighter starting $13.12/Hour 

216 Hours per pay period, 212 hours straight time, minimum 4 hours overtime
