Community Information

Tukwila is a small city in terms of square miles (approx. 9.65) and residential population (20,000), but is much larger in every other respect. Located just south of Seattle and minutes from Sea-Tac International Airport, Tukwila is home to one of the nation's largest retail complexes. We have a thriving business community that includes 3,000 retail, office, distribution, and heavy and light manufacturing businesses. Our daytime population approaches 140,000, except during the holiday shopping season, when that figure increases significantly.

Tukwila is centrally located for outstanding recreational opportunities. A short drive north leads to world-class major league sports facilities. Traveling east or west leads to water, mountains, and unlimited recreational activities during all four seasons. Tukwila is an ideal place to live, work, and shop.

Department Information

Following the department vision of "A world-class police department delivering professional law enforcement service," the Tukwila Police Department is accredited and fully committed to community policing in our urban/suburban environment. We responded to just over 31,000 calls for service in 2016. Our Officers are assigned to Uniformed Patrol, Traffic Enforcement (motorcycles), Community Police Teams (bicycles), Major Crimes Investigation (detectives), Anti-Crime Team (narcotic/vice enforcement), K-9, School Resource Officer, Crime Prevention, and Training. Additionally our Officers serve as members of Valley SWAT, Valley Crisis Communication Team, Valley Civil Disturbance Unit, and instruct D.A.R.E. in our elementary schools.

Chief's Message : The men and women of the Tukwila Police Department are committed to providing professional law enforcement services and promoting a safe and secure city. We have the pleasure of serving one of the most culturally diverse communities in the nation. We also have the opportunity of serving a resident population of about 20,000 and thriving business communities that swell our daytime population to 140,000.

My philosophy has two parts: to complete our law enforcement mission, and to maintain a healthy and capable police force. The department's mission is to prevent crime and disorder. This mission is completed through a variety of efforts that include a professional presence in the community, general and proactive enforcement of laws, quality criminal investigations, public safety education, crime prevention initiatives, accurate records management, and effective community partnerships and problem solving. The second tenet of my philosophy is to maintain a healthy and capable police force. I am committed to the well-being of our people, because the department will reach its greatest successes with a healthy team.
