Richland Police Department

  • The Richland Police Department will be conducting an oral board process on regular intervals in an effort to update our certification list.  

    In order to be considered for the City's September oral board process, candidates must have completed and passed the initial Written and Physical Ability exams with Public Safety Testing (PST).  

    In addition to the PST process, all candidates will be required to complete the City's online application, including attaching a current resume and updated Personal History Statement (PHS) in PDF Format.

Richland is located in sunny eastern Washington at the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima Rivers. The City is also an electric distribution utility, operates its own public library and administers a regional emergency management and 911-dispatch center.

Department Information

The Richland Police Services Department is a community oriented law enforcement agency that maintains a close working relationship with the citizens of the community. The Department consists of 64 commissioned officers and 17 non-commissioned professional staff. The Department structure includes two Divisions, each commanded by a Captain. The Field Operations Division consists of four patrol squads, School Resource Officers (SRO), Traffic Safety Unit (TSU), Patrol Investigators and Economics Crime Officer. The patrol officers work a 12-hour shift schedule. The Support Operations Division includes the Detective Section, Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Training, Professional Standards, Crime Analysis, Community Services, Code Enforcement, Evidence and Records sections.  The department also serves the region with a Bomb Squad, participates in the regional SWAT team, regional Drug Task Force and Violent Gang Task Force. The department commands and supervises the Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children (SER ICAC) task force.

Prior Experience Requirement Those applicants with two (2) years or more experience as a full-time Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer are encouraged to contact the City of Richland directly.    
Other • Completion of initial written and physical agility exams as outlined by the City of Richland’s protocols (currently Public Safety Testing).

• Satisfactorily complete field training provided the Richland Police Department, in which methods, procedures and techniques of law enforcement work are presented by field training officers, before completion of probationary period.

The Personal History Statement (PHS) must be completed within 7 days of your test.

Candidates must successfully pass the Physical Fitness and Abilities Test for this agency.

This agency does not allow out of state testing.
   

Current Hiring Status

The City of Richland maintains an ongoing and merging certification list for Police Officer.  Candidates MUST have already successfully completed PST's written exam and a Physical Agility Test at the time the City pulls candidate scores (typically twice a year - spring/fall). 

Notification will be sent to the list of candidates pulled from PST to complete and/or update their Personal History Statement (PHS) and to apply online (specific job #) through the City's website.  Only those invited by e-mail will be eligible to participate in the City's application screening process (includes online City application, current resume and PHS). 

It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure their PHS and online City application is complete. Incomplete PHS and City applications will be disqualified.
