Community Information

The Port of Seattle is a municipal corporation created September 5, 1911, by the voters of King County. As a public enterprise with unique authority operating in an international, market-driven environment, the Port gives careful consideration to the economic, social, and environmental implications of its business decisions.

The Port of Seattle is divided into five divisions: Aviation, Corporate, Capital Development, Economic, and Maritime. There are several departments within the Port that support these divisions and the broad mission of the Port. The Aviation Division operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Sea-Tac Airport is the 9th busiest passenger airport in the United States, serving more than 45 million passengers per year, and moving more than 366,000 metric tons of air cargo annually.

The Maritime Division operates the marine terminals and oversees related maintenance in conjunction with the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Harbor Services within Maritime provides services and facilities for fishing, commercial, and recreational boats at Fishermen's Terminal, Maritime Industrial Center, Harbor Island Marina, Shilshole Bay Marina, and Bell Harbor Marina. The Cruise Services team focuses on passenger cruise operations and facilities.

The Economic Division allows the Port to maintain its strong commitment to maritime commerce and air transportation, while focusing new energy on its role as an important driver for the regional economy.

Department Information

The Port of Seattle Police Department is a full-service department consisting of two divisions: Patrol and Administrative Services. Assignments available include Uniformed Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Boat Patrol, Bomb Disposal, Criminal Investigations, Evidence Technician / Property Room Custodian, Dive Unit, PTO, Hostage Negotiation, Explosive Detection K-9, Joint Terrorism Task Force, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Task Force, and SWAT.

We provide the primary law enforcement response within the geographical boundaries of the Port of Seattle, including Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and a portion of the surrounding residential and commercial properties. Port Police also patrol major portions of the Seattle waterfront and Elliott Bay.

Having a jurisdiction that is primarily a port of entry provides daily opportunities to develop close working relationships with the Office of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Transportation Security Administration.

Patrol officers work a 3/12 or 4/12 84.0 hr. schedule and bid for yearly schedules. To keep officer's skills sharp, 40 hours of annual in-service training is provided in addition to many local, regional, and national training opportunities. The employer provides uniforms (including cleaning service), footwear, and most patrol-related equipment. Washington Teamsters-Local 117 represents the officers.

  • No use of any non-prescribed Schedule 1-5 drugs (except for Marijuana/Hashish) over five (5) times combined. This standard applies to synthetic versions of Schedule 1-5 drugs.

  • No use of Hallucinogens, Opiates or Heroin within the last ten (10) years.

    Current Hiring Status
