Community Information

Othello has two High Schools; one Middle School and four elementary schools; 20 churches; numerous civic and community organizations. Othello is a diverse community with all citizens living and working cooperatively together. We are located next to a Wildlife Refuge and numerous lakes. We enjoy beautiful weather and various outdoor activities to enjoy. The community supports local festivals; farmers market; the Adams County Fair and PRCA Rodeo; and the Sandhill Crane Festival.

The Othello Police Department consists of 16 commissioned officers and 6 support personnel serving a population of approximately 8,200 citizens. Othello is a vibrant community located in the heart of the Columbia Basin and is known for its agricultural roots and small appeal. Othello offers a blend of natural beauty and friendly outgoing citizens. Outdoor recreation is abundant as Othello is surrounded by one of the most diverse recreational areas in Eastern Washington. More than 50 nearby lakes provide water sports opportunities, as well as great fishing, hunting and camping.

Current Hiring Status

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation and selection as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

Entry Level Police Officer starting pay is $53,916 annually. Pay increases from step A to step E.
