Community Information

Mukilteo is a predominately residential community of 6.3 square miles located 27 miles north of Seattle and adjacent to the City of Everett, and Puget Sound. We are bound by water on the north and west and by Paine Field Airport on the east. Paine Field Airport is a general aviation airport and home to the Boeing Company's Everett Commercial Aircraft Facility. Mukilteo is the home to the historic 1906 Mukilteo Light Station and has amenities including quaint shopping areas, restaurants, financial institutions and several parks and open spaces for recreational opportunities.

Department Information

Fire department with 24 full-time career members assigned to 24-hour shifts, a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Fire Marshal, and a Training Captain operating out of two stations. The department responds to over 2,000 incidents a year, 58% of which are emergency medical calls. The department provides basic and advanced life support services, fire suppression, fire safety inspections, fire prevention education and other community services. It also plans and conducts all fire safety training and develops long-term fire safety plans and programs.

Current Hiring Status

We currently have two Fire Fighter/Paramedic vacancies.  Vacancies are filled according to Civil Service Rules with the top three candidates forwarded to the Chief for consideration. All applications will be reviewed and the most appropriately qualified individuals will be invited to continue in the selection process. Examinations for the position may consist of any combination of written, performance, and oral exams to evaluate the applicant’s skills, training, and experience for the position. Successful applicants will be placed on a Civil Service eligibility list. 

Salary Information

2018 salary range for firefighter position: $5,637.01 – $7,052.99 per month plus additional paramedic, longevity and education pay:

Paramedic incentive:

8% incentive at time of hire, increasing to 10% after completing probation.

Education incentive:

2% for AA Degree

4% for BA Degree or higher

Longevity pay:

Completion of 5 years of service: 1%

Completion of 10 years of service: 2%

Completion of 15 years of service: 3%

Completion of 20 years of service: 4%

Benefit Information

The City pays 100% of the medical premium for employee and 90% for dependents. The City pays 100% of the dental and vision insurance premiums for employee and dependents. Additional benefits include life insurance, vacation, holidays, sick leave, LEOFF II retirement plan, deferred compensation plans, educational incentives, and Tuition Reimbursement.
