The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority (RFA) was incorporated on July 1, 2010. The RFA serves four distinct communities, the City of Kent, King County Fire District 37, the City of Covington, the City of SeaTac and the City of Maple Valley. We serve a combination of residential, commercial, warehousing and manufacturing.
The governing body is the RFA Governance Board, which consists of 3 current, seated members from the City of Kent Council, 3 current, seated Fire District 37 Commissioners, 1 current, seated nonvoting advisory position from the City of Covington Council and 1 current, seated nonvoting advisory position from the City of SeaTac.
The RFA currently serves an area of approximately 60 square miles in size. Within this service area there is over 64 million square feet of commercial space which houses areas of heavy and light industry, warehousing and retail businesses. Residential development exists in urban, suburban and rural environments.
The total population served by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority is approximately 171,740; 120,500 reside within the City of Kent, 18,100 reside within the limits of Covington; 27,310 reside within the City of SeaTac and 5,830 reside within the area known as King County Fire District 37.
The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, a nationally accredited fire department, is a full service department consisting of 6 divisions; Administration, Operations, Fire Prevention, Emergency Management, Safety/Logistics and Support Services. The Administration Division consists of Finance, Human Resources, Payroll and Civil Service. The Operations Division staffs 10 stations with 9 engines, 2 sky booms, 2 aid units, 1 ladder truck and 3 command vehicles, 24-hours a day, and work a 48/96 schedule. We also provide a hazardous materials response team and surface water rescue team. The Fire Prevention Division provides plan review, new construction and tenant improvement inspections, business inspections, fire and injury prevention education, fire and arson investigations, strategic planning, data and technology support. The Emergency Management Division provides contingency and continuity of operations planning, which includes mitigation, preparedness responses, and recovery for natural and man-made disaster, for the city government and disaster preparedness training for employees, local businesses, school districts and our citizens. The Administration/Support Services Division coordinates vehicle maintenance, facility maintenance and purchases of new apparatus.

Candidates are placed on an eligibility list based on a combination of their oral board scores and veteran's points (as applicable). Oral boards will be conducted the week of September 24-28, 2018. Candidates must complete the written test and CPAT by August 10th 2018, and will be contacted directly if they are considered for oral boards.
2018 base salary: entry-level salary is $6,144/month progressing to $8,191 at the completion of the 36 month apprentice program.
LEOFF 2 retirement, 1 deferred compensation program, 1 medical provider to choose from. 288 hours of sick leave earned annually for first four years, then 216 hours annually. 3.5 shifts of holiday leave and 9.5 shifts of vacation leave annually for the first four years, to a maximum of 16.5 shifts of vacation after 25 years. A retiree medical savings plan and educational incentives.
PSF does not participate/contribute into social security. Therefore, you may be subject to the Social Security Windfall Elimination provision.
