To test for the Juneau Police Department, choose from one of the following 3 options:

1. Register on this website by selecting any testing date & location (including a Juneau testing event) in order to complete the written test and physical fitness test. If the location you select only offers the written test, you will still need to complete and pass the fitness test in order to continue in our recruitment process. (More info on the fitness test options will be provided to you by the Juneau Police Department once PST has sent your passing written test score to us.)

2. Register on this website for an Online, In-home written test. Check the testing calendar for these available dates. Once you have passed the written test, PST will notify us so that we can then provide you information for getting the fitness test completed.

3. Register on this website to do Remote Testing at an approved Testing Center. The Juneau Police Department is an approved Testing Center, so this means you can test in Juneau at the police station. Once you have registered for a Remote Test, PST will send us a notification, so we can then work with you to select a date that works for you and for us. These testings are somewhat flexible and can be scheduled to accommodate the schedule of local residents. Once you pass the written test, we can provide you information for getting the fitness test completed.

Community Information

Juneau is Alaska's capital city. It is located in the "panhandle" of Southeast Alaska and is approximately 500 miles southeast of Anchorage and 900 miles north of Seattle. Juneau Police Department Mission Statement

In partnership with the people of Juneau, our mission is to make our city a place where people can live safely and without fear.

The department provides general police services to the City and Borough of Juneau, covering an area of 3,081 square miles and a population of approximately 32,000. The department consists of 2 divisions: Operations and Police Services. Within these divisions, there are 5 primary units: Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Community Service, Records, and Communications.  Due to Juneau's isolated geographic location, JPD is required to remain self-sufficient.  Therefore, the department also maintains specialized teams in SWAT, Bomb Squad, and Crisis Negotiations. JPD strives to provide regular and current training to all staff and operates from a modern facility that includes an up-to-date computerized dispatch center and records unit.  Patrol officers operate with up-to-date fleet, which are equipped with in-car video and mobile data terminals.  Officers wear body-worn cameras.

Job Description

Under the direction of a shift supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for carrying out the various duties and tasks assigned to the Operations Division. The incumbent will patrol designated areas within the City and Borough of Juneau for violations of the law. The incumbent will also respond to and provide mutual aid to other law enforcement agencies as directed by the shift supervisor or shift commander. The incumbent is responsible for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of ordinances and statues and is responsible for rendering emergency assistance to the public in a wide variety of situations.  Incumbent acts as the first responder to events where police service is required by securing the scene, restoring the peace, and representing the police department in a manner that brings credit to the City and Borough of Juneau.

Base Rate: $37.93 per hour ($78,894 annually). Higher starting salary offered for college degrees and/or advanced experience.

Longevity Bonus: The department also participates in a $10,000 longevity bonus program after 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 years of employment as a JPD officer.
