Community Information

Issaquah is a residential community located on I-90 approximately 18 miles from downtown Seattle, at the south end of Lake Sammamish. The City's proximity to the greater Seattle area provides cultural and educational opportunities typically available in larger urban areas. The Puget Sound beaches and numerous lakes provide many recreation opportunities, Snoqualmie Pass is a 45-minute drive, and the many trails in the Issaquah foothills have earned the City the title of "Trailhead City". Schools are managed by the Issaquah School District, which has an excellent reputation for the programs, which serve students in its 100 square mile jurisdiction in and around Issaquah. Issaquah was incorporated in 1892, and operates with a Mayor/Council form of government. The City has approximately 27,000 residents with a day time population that swells to approximately 50,000. The City encompasses 10.65 square miles, and is experiencing growth as a result of economic and residential development. Issaquah is a full-service City with 240 regular employees. The City anticipates continued residential and commercial expansion, as well as the potential for substantial annexations, including a sizable master planned community and is a great place to raise a family and experience the variety of outdoor activities within the area.

Department Information

There are 64 full time police department employees with 33 Commissioned Officers. The City has it's own jail and a communications dispatch center. A new police station housing all Police staff and functions was opened in April 2000. The City is in constant growth and the police department is expected to grow larger in the next few years.
