Founded in 1946, Gig Harbor is one of the most picturesque small cities in America, located on Gig Harbor Bay in Puget Sound across the Narrows Bridge from Tacoma. The Gig Harbor Police Department serves the citizens of Gig Harbor, and other community members, within the jurisdiction's 5.93 square miles. This includes general patrol duties, as well as bicycle patrol and marine patrol on Gig Harbor bay. Currently, there are two detectives.

Current Hiring Status

The Entry Level eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service with the top five candidate names' being certified on a list of eligibles by the Civil Service Commission.  The five names on the list will be forwarded to the appointing authority for consideration of background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

$5,519 - $6,900 per month (2018 salary range)

Benefit Information

Full medical/dental/vision for employee and dependents; HRA VEBA; matched money purchase retirement savings plan 401(a), in lieu of Social Security contributions; optional deferred compensation savings plan 457(b); all uniforms and equipment supplied; cleaning allowance for uniformed officers; minimum of 24 hours of in-service training after first year; state retirement plan LEOFF2; take home vehicle program; two floating holidays in addition to pay for 11 other holidays; sick leave accrued at the rate of 8 hours of leave for each month of continuous full-time service. Accrued sick leave that is unused in any year shall accumulate for succeeding years for all regular full-time employees to a maximum of 1,000 hours; vacation leave will accrue at the rate of 6.67 hours a month to equal 80 hours per year the first year; each year thereafter an additional .67 hours per month equal to 8 hours per year, up to a maximum of twenty-six (26) days per year. Shift differential pay; FTO differential pay; Master Patrol Officer pay, and educational incentive pay.
