Mercer Island is a unique community that offers serene neighborhoods and a healthy business district. It is approximately 6.2 square miles, and has a population of approximately 23,000 residents. It is situated on Lake Washington, east of Seattle and west of Bellevue. There is a strong sense of community between the City employees and the residents.

Department Information

The Police Department employs 31 commissioned officers, who serve in a variety of capacities to include Administration, Criminal Investigations, Street Patrol, and Marine Patrol. The department offers opportunities for career development in a variety of areas. Specialty assignment opportunities are available to all qualified officers. Specialty assignments include, but are not limited to: EMAC/Crime Prevention Officer, School Resource Officer, Bicycle Patrol, Marine Patrol, Dive Team, Detectives, Special Operations Team, Firearms Instructor, Accident Investigation, Field Training Officer and Media Relations Officer. Officers receive a high level of continuous training, and may choose specific areas of focus.
