Orting is a growing community with a population of 7,300 people. The city is experiencing significant growth and will grow to approximately 8,000 to 10,000 people in the next 5-10 years.

Department Information

The Orting Police Department is made up of nine officer positions (one of which is a School Resource Officer and one detective), one Lieutenant and one Chief position. (Currently, a total of twelve full time), and one Reserve Officer. Also an evidence technician and a civilian records manager, along with volunteer individuals, assist the department in its mission.

Current Hiring Status

The Orting Civil Service has certified a lateral list for the current opening.  A personal history statement (PHS) must be available via the Public Safety Testing website for the Orting Police Department to consider an applicant.

Salary Information

Salary range - hourly $28.83 - $33.42 per hour (DOQ). Annual = $ 59,966.40 to $ 69, 513.60 (before incentives – education, specialty, longevity, etc.).

Benefit Information

Education incentive of 2.5% for AA or two years of college; or 5% for BA or four years of college, 7.5% for Masters Degree, longevity and other premium pays.

Full benefit package for full time staff. Medical is AWC Group Health, Police retirement is through the LEOFF-2 system.
