Located three miles east of Seattle, Washington, between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish, and about ten miles west of the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the City of Bellevue is Washington's 5th largest city. Department Information

As an Internationally Accredited fire and life safety organization, the Bellevue Fire Department is dedicated to making Bellevue one of the finest and safest places to live, work, and visit in the nation. It is committed to delivering the highest level of fire suppression, emergency medical, fire prevention, and disaster services possible for our rapidly changing residential, business, and corporate communities. Under the direction of Fire Chief Jay Hagen, the Bellevue Fire Department provides a variety of life-safety services to city residents, as well as to the residents of several other surrounding communities, including Beaux Arts, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Medina, Newcastle, and Yarrow Point. As a regional provider of Advance Life Support (ALS) services, the Bellevue Fire Department's comprehensive Emergency Medical Services program currently operates four Medic One units, which provide a high level of patient care to approximately 281,000 Eastside and Snoqualmie Valley residents spread out over a 301 square mile area. The Bellevue Fire Department consists of 244 dedicated employees, of which 200 are Firefighters, Paramedics, Lieutenants, Captains, and Battalion Chiefs, who staff nine fire stations and four Medic One locations 24-hours a day. The remaining 44 staff members are assigned to Fire Administration and six separate divisions, which include Emergency Medical Services, Office of Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, Training, Supply & Maintenance, and Public Education & Outreach.

Current Hiring Status

The City of Bellevue will be collecting Public Safety Testing (PST) written test scores on July 31, 2018. Candidates must also have a valid PST or NTN CPAT by July 31, 2018. The top 200 (approximately) scoring applicants will receive an email notification from the City of Bellevue with instructions on how to continue the application process through the City’s NeoGov application system. The applicants who are contacted by email, will also be directed to self-schedule for the first interview using NEOGOV. The interviews that applicants self-schedule will be held on August 8 and August 9, 2018 and no additional interview days or times will be available. If any of the notified applicants fail to complete the NeoGov process by the deadline of noon, August 6, 2018, the next top scoring PST applicant(s) will be notified to fill the remaining interview times. We will continue this process until all 200 (approximately) interview times are filled. The top 40 scoring applicants from the first interview will move on to the second interview.

The applicants who successfully move on from the first round of interviews, must be available to participate in the second round of interviews, scheduled between Sunday, August 12, through Thursday, August 16, 2018. In addition to the interview, each applicant will need to pass a ladder raise evolution.

Applicants who successfully pass the second round of interviews will be placed on the Entry Level Firefighter Eligibility List. This is a list of Firefighter candidates who are eligible to be hired by the City of Bellevue. The eligibility list expires after one year. The list will be formed by using the second round interview passing scores. Vacancies are filled by using the Civil Service rules, with the top candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for a background investigation, psychological and medical exams as vacancies occur.
