Community Information

The City of Normandy Park, incorporated in 1953, is located on the shores of Puget Sound just a short distance west of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Covering a total of 1,706 acres with 31 miles of streets, the highest point within the City is just 400 feet above sea level. From City Hall it is just 13.1 miles to downtown Seattle and 28.5 miles to downtown Tacoma. The almost totally residential city has a limited number of businesses and professional offices. The largest employer in the City is a grocery store. Residents are primarily made up of professional people and their families. The City has four major parks including one with public access to the saltwater beach and one with baseball, softball, and soccer fields. Normandy Park has a Council-Manager form of government with the Mayor being elected by and from the City Councilmembers. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council who in turn hires the Police Chief. One elementary school is located within the City and is part of the Highline School District #401. Middle and high schools are located nearby. Many community colleges and major universities are within commuting distance.

Department Information

The Police Department provides all police services for the citizens of Normandy Park. These community-oriented services include routine and designated patrol, investigations, and enforcement of all laws and ordinances. They also manage the evidence and property room, are responsible for the issuance of several types of permits, traffic statistics and crime reports, and animal control. The department also conducts Block Watch and RAD, Rape Aggression Defense, programs on an on going basis, in addition the department has bicycle patrol; and a motorcycle patrol. Staffing includes Chief, 2 Sergeants, 7 Police Officers, 1 Records Specialist and is supplemented by an active Reserve Officer Program. The department also actively participates in a 12 city coalition through an inter-local agreement, which includes shared training, a major crime investigations team and a special operations team.

Current Hiring Status

The city of Normandy Park is hiring for two full-time Police Officer positions.  The next round of Oral Boards (panel interview) will be held in late February.

Salary Information

2018 Salary Range: $5,127.71 - $6,410.74 subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement. Incentive pay range from 2 to 4 % for education, Detective, EVOC Instructor, and Field Training Officer. Longevity increases 1% after 5 years, 2% after 10 years, 3% after 15 years, and 4% after 20 years.
