Department Information

Spokane County Fire District 8 provides a full range of services that include fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, education and investigation, and associated support and maintenance services to our 20,694 citizens in a 110 square mile area in south Spokane County. SCFD8 members responded to 3,195 incidents in 2017 from the District's four fire stations located in the Moran, Valleyford, Ponderosa, and Saltese areas. Each station is staffed twenty-four hours a day with a combination of career, part-time, volunteer and resident volunteer personnel.

Current Hiring Status

Number of Current Vacancies: Two (2) full time Firefighter/EMT positions for immediate hire. Written Exam, Personal History Statement, & PST CPAT must be completed by January 11, 2019 to be considered.

Salary Information

All wages and benefits are negotiated by Spokane County Fire District 8 Firefighters IAFF Local 3711. The current contract expires December 31, 2018.

Step A Firefighter/EMT salary is $57,978 with the wage for a Recruit Firefighter/EMT being 80% of a Step A Firefighter/EMT. Upon completion of the recruit academy, the Probationary Firefighter/EMT will receive a 10% increase. An additional 10% increase will be earned upon completion of six months on the job. This will bring the Probationary Firefighter/EMT to Step A for the remaining six months of their probationary period.
